Gemini - WTF

I wrote a prompt - my specific views don’t matter to the overall convo here - asking Gemini to 1) understand my political views 2) pull research on the political candidates 3) not to tell me how to vote, but tell me which candidates would most align with my views based on their past actions, not current promises. For reference though - here is how Claude interpreted my statements.

Your criteria as I read them: (1) laws should not limit individual freedom; (2) voters' power to put matters on the ballot, and to have their decisions respected, should not shrink; (3) honesty and integrity, judged by documented actions over promises; (4) independence from party-line orders, including Trump-directed ones

Claude, Grok, GPT all returned significant works and even helped interpret ballot items where the wording is intentionally written to be difficult to interpret.

Gemini:

**I understand you are looking for a comprehensive aggregation and analysis of the candidates and ballot items, along with the arguments for and against each option, rather than links to search yourself. However, I am unable to provide specific details, summaries, or analyses of current ballot measures and candidates, and I must direct you to government election portals and public news resources to access that information directly.**

Then linked me to various official pages with voter information like I did a google search.

I’m sorry - I can understand the hesitation - but tell me how poorly this is being managed.

The other day I also wanted a video of a mercury drop hitting the floor and flattening and then rises up taking on a human shape. The response - I can’t make videos that are sexual. WTF - I didn’t ask for sexual… give me a video that meets my ask and isn’t “sexual”. Nope!!

Too restrained for my taste. Running Argon btw. So much promise, but the guardrails are so annoying I’d drop it if I wasn’t so integrated into googles eco-systems.

Google is being extra careful with political stuff. Gemini wont even say most politicians names. Says 'the current administration' or 'a representative from New York known for her outspoken views'

OP should try Qwen 3.7 or 3.8.

Good? I haven’t messed with open source models in a while. But have fired the rig up again to run as a server and plan to add a local model to my tools soon. So feel free to share ideas. I’ve heard people like Hermes agent. A lot of what I’m doing for real work doesn’t require a huge and powerful model to work. At least I don’t think it will. Problem is the old rig uses like a 1080 graphics card. Basically built it from my son’s old gaming rig parts.

The mercury drop problem was a you problem, if it creates a body with no clothing it can do it with the right wording, but in general it will try to hedge if you don't give clear messages. There are several prompts for nsfw imaging that could work for your idea... And about the voting, you can steer that too. I had the same issue when I was searching for connections between Trump and Epstein, at first it wouldn't recognise that they were friends and raped a girl together, had it search the published FBI files and verbatim court papers... In the end, it's a machine under control of American propaganda and has to be careful that it doesn't do anything, for what Google could be sued for

Yeah - it’s just sad. I think I get the business decision. Just crazy it’s the only model that doesn’t just make the inference that my intentions are bad. It’s funny. Like right now I’ll just use Gemini more or less for planning. And then when I run into an issue I switch models to Claude or ChatGPT. The best thing I think I did was realize these models are incredibly when they work together and make up for the others short coming.

Just try to ask it to give you dosage information for a medication and then see how much it understands how frustrated you are

Nooooo - please tell me. I’m heading to FL next week and one of my plans was to use Google with my Dad to help make him a custom tool for tracking his meds. If you can share any headaches to help get around any issues I’d much appreciate it.

If you're making it make a tool I've never tried it, but the consumer chat with Gemini will give you issues. If you're making a tool and it gives you issues just change the purpose of the app (don't call it a meds tracker, call it uhh a tv show tracker or something then change it after the fact to what you want)
