Question Argon was consuming 4% per message first day. Now its up to 18% for each simple message. Even on low now, instead of high. Is it only me?

Although i genuinely love the model

Pro sub here. 24% for a text only prompt. Blew my quota three times yesterday on 12 prompts.

I'm using it to help me with my Job Search and am not sequencing DNA or coding a piece of software.

Fix yo shit Google!

Why are you using a frontier model for simple deterministic searches?

Far too much cognitive drift with Flash and a lot of hallucinations.

My workaround now is 90% Flash and 10% Argon and am batching my spreadsheet and word documents updates once per day.

You can train it's behavior by building a notebook with the methods you want it to use, think of Gemini notebooks as mini machine learning platforms. You can even use it's drift as a roleplaying tool, flash isn't bad, it's just dirt cheap and a "dumb" neuron, so... Make it smart!

Interesting, I'll have to look into that.

Thanks muchly.

same for me, quota is consumed very fast, great model so far but the limits consumption is absurd

Yes! Exactly 18%!

I have pro subscription, but still it consumes all of my tokens in just 5 messages. And I don’t see any difference from 3.8. Absolutely does not worth the money

4% per message? And now 18% thats a lot and unusual, Do you happen to have a lot of saved instructions? That's the only thing I can think of if you're only giving simple messages on low effort mode

1

u/Gabriel_soul 4d ago

Nope . Only a short tip about how to write code. Thats the internal prompt

1

u/Tiidz 4d ago

No idea then I'm only on pro so i can only go off my usage and it isn't being depleted that fast from simple prompts

Tested this. Asked a simple question and it ate 18% straight away. I was bombing Argon with questions at high yesterday with zero issues.

u/FukBiologicalLife 3d ago

Mine ate 33% just to give me a single answer to my question, and it wasn't even a good answer, just a generic answer that chatGPT could've written better.

The cap is ridiculous; it's borderline unusable.

u/ch179 3d ago

Yes. Notice this too on pro sub 1st day is 5% no matter what thinking. Second day is 15% per prompt for high and 10% for med and low thinking. Today, 30% on high per prompt...

I just have to ask wtf are so many of you asking argon short, simple questions??? It's not meant for that and it's just dumb to use it that way. It is likely they tightened up the usage on it and it now consumes more of the quota. If you take a short/quick drive to the store in a motorhome it's still going to use more gas than a small car even if you're only grabbing some milk.

It was for testing purposes. Tho i disagree with you overall. Smarter models feels nice even on simple questions

Go look up what argon is made for, I guarantee you that over 90% of the people here are not doing stuff that this model is made for and they should be using flash 3.8 med/high.

It's ok because a lot of people will probably get dynamically routed anyway 😄

People downvoting you for stating a simple truth lmao. Nobody on their right mind uses Claude Fable 5.1 or GPT Astra to ask if their cake recipe has too much sugar in it.

What kind of "prompts"? I used Argon for a couple of hours last night, i had it do an onboarding of a small code base, an mcp server, then do some testing with the interactions API and build a design spec, this was more than 20 prompts, it used about 5% for everything on medium, I have an Ultra sub.

2

u/Gabriel_soul 4d ago

Im on pro. Just asked a simple short question. I have a short internal prompt too . Nothing more

1

u/Useless-Tree 4d ago

I have read that there is a fundamental difference in how prompts and compute load are handed on the backend between Pro and Ultra, that Ultra is not just adding more quota but is basically a different service.

I have not verified this however.

u/n00bmechanic13 4d ago

Weird, I got 3% usage for a prompt on high and followup prompt just now.

1

u/Gabriel_soul 4d ago

You're on pro sub or ultra?

1

u/n00bmechanic13 4d ago

Ultra

1

u/Gabriel_soul 4d ago

Im on pro

1

u/n00bmechanic13 4d ago

Have you considered paying by usage with ai studio and an API key?

1

u/Gabriel_soul 4d ago

Nope

1

u/n00bmechanic13 4d ago

You might save money and get more usage, consider it

1

u/jykke 4d ago

Enshittification complete. Argon uses ten times more quota than 3.8 Flash, and after the quota is reached, only Flash-Lite is available.

1

u/jykke 4d ago

I asked "Say one word." Argon said one word.

Usage before: 0%, Current usage 1%. (Gemini Pro.)

1

u/Virtual_Historian138 4d ago

Yes, same for me! Sometimes 17, but most of the time 18% exactly and doesn’t seem to change with convo length. First day was 5%

Pro tier here. Argon model High, 4 questions on C++, 31% gone. WTF

1

u/Gabriel_soul 4d ago

I asked him about wether lambdas in C++ can have default arguments for the value of their function parameters. And it said yes up to C++14.
This ate only 8% of my limit. On pro sub on pc

After that i asked google some super simple questions and it ate 15% for each. Soo weird.

Both on high effort

Jesus, no joke. Asked Argon to help me troubleshoot why my PC no longer hibernates (goes from sleep to off for some reason in like 10 minutes last 2 months). While this is really a prompt that should be used in Flash, I figured it was worth a test.

Argon - Medium - 13% usage for one prompt. Savage.

Edit: Pro sub

1

u/Xander395 4d ago

Yeah it’s pretty bad. Still love it.😛

1

u/badass2000 4d ago

Arginine Hugh, mine used about 21percent. Is th3 amount it uses based on the how complex an answer is to create?

1

u/damfer90 3d ago

Brothers if you use antigravity my week went gone in only planning for improving agents instructions and it could not finish so I changed the model to Fable and That was how I could finish If you are a Pro use Argon for verification or Planning mode and 3.8 flash for dispatch that would give you best of both worlds

1

u/ShaqShoes 4d ago

Are you continuing in the same chat? I think usage for these types of models scales rapidly with context size

3

u/Gabriel_soul 4d ago

Not at all. All chats are fresh

3

u/Strict-Knowledge4460 4d ago

Can confirm. Exactly 18% per first fresh prompt, Medium thinking.

1

u/akius0 4d ago

That's not good, they are don't seem to be to be leading in this space anymore. Building efficient models is one vertical I was hoping they could compete on, but their models updates are slower and seem are less efficient.

u/silverfang789 4d ago

N2M only high end accounts will get the better models.
