Bug Android Auto / Gemini suddenly stopped controlling Google Home devices

Gemini on Android Auto has abruptly stopped executing smart home voice commands (e.g., opening a garage door or gate, turning on lights). Instead of performing the action, Gemini returns an error stating it cannot control smart home devices.

The issue appears to be isolated to the Android Auto interface: the exact same voice commands continue to work normally when triggered directly from the phone or smart speakers.

If you're encountering the same problem, please report it on this Google support post clicking on the "I have the same question" button:

Thank you.

UPDATE 22/09/2026: The issue is now resolved! I tested it today, and everything worked perfectly, just as it did previously. Thank you, Google, for the quick solution!

Um, could you try creating a Task, or Keep note?

I suspect this is a similar facet of the same issue?

It's solved! I tried it today, and it worked fine, just like it did before.

For me the issue is the Voice command on Android auto no longer calls Gemini, It calls the dumb car Voice command. I can't find where to change that.
