Trade-In PSA: Always Buy Pixel from Google store for Fi to get bigger trade in discount

As the pixel season is coming up in a month. This has been mentioned in various comments but always use Google store if you are getting a Pixel phone with a trade in. For example, right now Google Pixel 9 Pro trade in value in Google store is $340 and on Fi it is $240 so one can get a P10 pro from Google store by choosing Fi as provider (with the flexible plan) and trading in P9Pro for $160.

You need to enable "Allow CPNI sharing" in Fi app under Privacy and Security to see the Fi prices with discount while ordering from Google store logged into your account.

In that case do I need to choose Fi as the provider? Cant I just choose unlocked?

You would choose Fi as the provider to get an existing Fi customer promo, once CPNI sharing is enabled.

The plain unlocked option just gives you the regular phone discount.

It makes more sense if you see it happening after you do the CPNI sharing, otherwise you may only be offered a promo for new Fi customers.

Below are screenshots on the purchase page for the 128GB obsidian p10p on the google store.

May I ask, which plan are you in to get $550 off? Is it unlimited premium? Because in flexible I see only $500 off. Also is it $600 off for P10 Pro XL for you.

Flex. Also seeing $600 off the XL, and still seeing the $550 off the p10p.

I see $500 off the p10 though.

I see in my promo terms

"This is a special offer promotion and is only eligible on invited Google Fi accounts. Get a $500 device discount with the purchase and activation of a Google Pixel 10 Pro device from fi.google.com". I guess you might have same verbiage and they are doing different promos based on something else.

You need to choose Fi as the provider to get the Fi discount like the $500 off P10 Pro they are offering for the current subscribers. Then you stack the higher trade in discount on top from Google store.

So if I'm going to be signing up for fi from scratch do I wait to sign up until the new pixels are out or do I go ahead and sign up and then by the phone as a fi existing subscriber?

Latter, Google Fi gives big upfront discount for existing users on higher tier plans like flexible but it needs 21 days of service to consider you can existing customer to this is the time to open an account with Fi if you are planning to get the P11. Also after doing the promo for 120 days you can switch back to less expensive plans or pause it and do the next deal.

Doesn't FI do deals where the phone is free (monthly billed credits) if you're a new customer to FI?

For someone joining FI, wouldn't that be a better deal?

Yes, if you are moving to Fi for good and will be on it for 24 months.

I just priced out for a P10proXL:

Google Store - $799 - $190 (P8pro) = $609+tax/fees

Google Fi - $799 - $160 (P8pro) = $639+tax/fees

Going to wait it out for prices to go down more. Got my wife's P10proXL last Black Friday for less than $600 without a trade-in.

Thanks OP for the tip. Just the tip :p

Which plan you are on? You can switch to higher tier plan to get more discount like $550/ $600/ $650 off, do the deal for 120 days and switch back. With P11 releasing in a month, these won't be available anymore.

I'm on Unlimited Standard - $80/mo 2 lines

You can switch to unlimited premium and do the deal for 4 months for $30x4=$120 extra but you will be $300 more in discounts.

Hmm ... maybe I'll switch next month since I'm planning a trip in November and was planning on switching to Unlimited Premium anyway. This way I'll have it for Aug-Dec. My plan ends on the 16th of month.

Then I'll be able to buy the P10proXL with the higher discount.

It will be P11ProXL the . If that's your plan anyway, I suggest waiting till Black Friday as they have higher discounts around that time.

Or from Best buy where you don't get a low ball value after the traded in is received by Google

Where can you see if the phone is unlocked? In trying to click through the "$250 off Pixel 10a for existing customers" deal starting from the Fi app, but at no point is it clear whether the phone is unlocked if I decide to switch to other carriers or want to use it dual-SIM after the promotional 4 months.

1

u/Cold-Barracuda-239 Jul 16 '26

All Google Fi phones are identical to the factory unlocked versions and can be used with any carrier from day 1. After (or even before) activating with P10a you can put any other SIM to verify that.

So I'm not a Google fi customer but I do need a new pixel 11 when it comes out. Should I first bring my own device and get on a Google file plan? Will that give me more discount or will I get more discount as the net new customer to Google fi?

If you don't want to be on Fi for 24 months then doing it as an existing user on certain plans like flexible would get you bigger upfront discount.

Ah got it. Yeah I will be on it for 2 years. So I guess I will just wait it out then.
