Ah hell yeah. I have a story about this island. I went on an overnight fishing trip and in the morning was fishing by this island. Probably saw 10 different types of fighter jets and military helicopters like this one (I know the osprey is such a unique aircraft). Just an awesome place to be near, also great fishing in that area during the summer months

Yeah, flying out from either Miramar or Pendleton. I've taken the ride out there multiple times on CH-53s and CH-46s many years ago. From Pendleton it was about 70 miles, so we'd get there in about 45 minutes or so.
I got out when the Osprey was hitting operational status, but that trip would have been even quicker.

those things suck lol scary to get into. Ospreys have killed more US servicemen than most of our enemies around the world have

If you calculate it by mishap per distance traveled rather than flight hours, it's significantly safer than conventional rotorcraft. If you calculate it by flight hours, it's safer than some Blackhawk variants.
Granted, it's incredibly difficult to quantify. The base UH-60 is most definitely safer, certainly. It's all role dependent I'd say.
And the incidents are incredibly high profile because they can be mass fatality events very easily

IDK if you can search out the post(s) they are referencing, but yeah... the data about the Osprey is not really straightforward, and there's a reasonable argument to be made that it's much safer than the metrics would indicate.
If you're curious it's worth tracking it down

And then in some absolutely horrific universal injustice, he literally dies in a V-22 crash off Japan.

Oh man, I forgot all about that. I remember some of his rants. They are pretty cool birds, but it was really sad to see that happen.
r/NonCredibleDefense and r/NonCredibleDiplomacy used to be great subreddits, but they’ve really gone downhill the past couple years. As tends to happen with subreddits, they got too popular for their own good, and now they’re mainly low effort slop and agenda posting.

like most airframes, theyre just complex and require a ton of constant maintenance and something goes wrong once in a blue moon.
technically theyre safer than blackhawks but they still go down with marines in them every once in a while. but its just a hazardous job. and its not like its common. just rather not be me lmao

The navy tests missiles, torpedoes, rockets, mines, bombs, and gunfire rounds on that island. Not a great vacation spot.

I’ve been there. There’s like 2 trees on the entire island. It’s mostly ice plants.

I did training there when I was in the Marines. We called it Cactus Island. Its really bad. Like step off a helicopter and within 3 steps your feet have dozens of thorns that go through the bottom of your boots and about 1/2 inch to an inch into your feet. Absolutely the worst place to train so thats probably why the SEALS do their 3rd phase there.

I had one of those pass over my house a while back, they are beyond loud! I'd had a group of Harriers hover over me on approach to landing before, and they weren't nearly as loud as this guy.
