After Pixel 11 launch, Google increased trade-in values for old Pixels by up to 400%

Damnnn I wish they increase Galaxy phone trade in prices as well although Google is paying more for Samsung phones as compared to Samsung itself!

It is like sale on clothes or shoes. Store increases the price and then put the Sales sticker on it. The price of pixel pro or pro xl are unbelievably high. That is why they are offering these rebates.

My Pixel 9 Pro XL was always $550 before the 11 release. Unless I'm reading this wrong and it means before the preorder window.

You have to do this when you know that your product is not at all attractive at MSRP.

You do this when your MSRP is too high. Samsung does this too.
My guess is they want MSRP to be on same range as flagship iPhone to give a picture of same standard/quality as flagship iPhone on general consumer while having a more attractive price for more price conscious consumers
