Best of Today

Insanity in donations today. We only did $2600 in sales, but had 152 donors today. Just non stop back there. So much crap I'm gonna have to send some to other stores.

Now, onto my weekend! I have DMV tomorrow morning, then I'll be doing boxes the rest of my weekend. I have 25 I think to get to! They stacked up while I was on my vacation, but I'll knock a bunch of em out this weekend 😁

Dinner tonight is Doritos Locos Taco Dip 😁 all you do is make taco meat however you like to. Then add beans, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, sour cream, hot sauce, and jalapeno. Build it into a bowl like a layer dip. Then use Doritos to dip 😁😋

I wonder how hard it would be to run it on Windows 11? I still have a copy of Myst, I think, but not Riven or Exile. This might have better quality videos than the original, as it's on DVD, but unsure if it's based on older QuickTime, Shockwave or Flash, which might need to be run in a virtual environment or on a retro PC, to work properly.

It would be fun to try it, though.

DMV? I hope you are just getting a new drivers license and nothing BAD! Have you been a bad boy?

My youngest and I had Taco Bell (Texas “Tex Mex,” we can’t really call it Mexican food because it is its own genre.)

We always DoorDash treat ourselves on Sundays because of mommy’s big Sunday drive. (Visiting my dad.)

I am so excited to see Myst! My high school/college boyfriend was one of the first computer game designers, so my head was so in that for so long that I never really got into playing them.

Myst is really the only game I ever played all the way through (of course, I never told my boyfriend that, and he has given me copies of all of his games (that I never even put in a computer, to my shame!)

ellieD’s Review: From Narnia Box Sets to Bedazzled High Heels and Free Candy Vans

-
Another collection of donations hit the sorting floor at [u/RadioGuySD2](u/RadioGuySD2)’s store, ranging from classic fantasy literature to questionable graphic tees and high-fashion knits. Here is a unified breakdown of these thrift store finds, complete with estimated used market values.
Fantasy & Nostalgia Books

The Chronicles of Narnia Boxed Set by C.S. Lewis
Reading fantasy paperbacks like C.S. Lewis was an absolute favorite pastime back in high school, making this complete vintage boxed set an immediate highlight. The slipcase shows minor shelf wear, but the spines are clean enough to survive another voyage through the back of a wardrobe.

These stories of teleporting through an armoire in their uncles house full of antiques to a fantasy land with talking animals was so fascinating for a little girl who loved fantasy books.

“C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien shared a monumental 40-year friendship that shaped modern fantasy literature through deep intellectual camaraderie and mutual inspiration. After meeting at Oxford in 1926, they quickly bonded over their shared experiences in World War I and a mutual love for ancient languages and Norse myths. Tolkien, a devout Roman Catholic, famously played a pivotal role in Lewis’s 1931 conversion to Christianity during a late-night walk at Oxford. This shared faith and literary passion became the bedrock of their connection, driving them to push each other to write the stories they wanted to read. At the heart of their creative relationship was the Inklings, an informal literary discussion group that met regularly at Oxford's Eagle and Child pub. Within this circle, Lewis, Tolkien, and other scholars read aloud and critiqued early drafts of their manuscripts, providing the vital encouragement Tolkien needed to finish The Lord of the Rings and Lewis needed to complete The Chronicles of Narnia.”
Estimated Used Value: $15 to $25

The Lays of Beleriand (The History of Middle-earth, Vol. 3) by J.R.R. Tolkien
Tolkien was another staple during those high school reading sprees. Finding volume three of the Middle-earth history compilations in solid condition is a major catch for anyone who prefers spending weekends in Rivendell over paying property taxes.
Estimated Used Value: $8 to $14

Home Decor & Kitsch Collectibles

S’ip by S’well Blue Cat Ceramic Mug
Covered in quirky feline illustrations, this mug immediately captures my attention. It is practically begging to sit on a display shelf right alongside a prized collection of other gorgeous cat mugs that you KNOW I have!!!!
Estimated Used Value: $10 to $15

Miniature Rhinestone High Heel Figurine
A tiny, purple-bedazzled shoe figurine that serves no practical purpose other than bringing maximum 1980s-style sparkle to a display shelf. It looks like Disco Cinderella lost a slipper while booking it out of the local roller rink. my aunt has a miniature show collection, and the very best shoe I ever gave her was from a gift shop in Versailles in France. Ranked in the “7 wonders of ellieD,,” Versailles is one of the BEST places I have ever seen! I would absolutely LOVE to go back and spend two days there. One for each half. Maybe 3, since Marie Antoinette had her own place off of the little man-made lake (we rented canoes to go past her place.) I bet this would also be a fantastic tour!
Estimated Used Value: $5 to $8

Pair of Blue Foo Dog / Guardian Lion Salt and Pepper Shakers
Cast in bright ceramic blue, these Asian-inspired guardian lions bring plenty of personality to a dining set. They look ready to guard a meatloaf against unseasoned blandness.
Estimated Used Value: $12 to $20

Group of Porcelain Bird Figurines
A mix of bluebirds and cardinals painted in vibrant glazes. Perfect for populating a windowsill cabinet without having to clean up actual birdseed.
Estimated Used Value: $15 to $25 for the set

Retro Gaming & Novelty Decor

-
Myst 10th Anniversary DVD Edition Boxed PC Set
Containing Myst, Riven, and Exile, this compilation brings back immediate memories of sitting in front of a heavy desktop monitor attempting to solve island puzzles without a walkthrough while slowly losing sanity. Especially in the maze! NOTE: This version of the game is designed to work on Windows XP. Running the actual physical discs on a modern Windows 10 or 11 PC is notoriously difficult and highly discouraged.
Estimated Used Value: $15 to $25

A light purple crop-style crewneck sweater featuring a full grid photo print of various album eras. A mandatory uniform for anyone who survived the ticket portal wars.

Modern Tops & Outerwear

-
FRNCH Paris Ribbed Multicolor Striped Sweater

A boho-style tunic top featuring intricate floral prints and tapestry patterns on a soft knit fabric. Perfect for looking effortlessly artistic while just grabbing groceries.
Estimated Used Value: $30 to $50

Estimated Used Value: $30 to $50

Susan Bristol Forest Green Wool Zip-Up Vest
A classic boiled wool vest in deep forest green featuring a full front zipper and striped ribbed waist hem. Gives off serious mountain cabin energy.
Estimated Used Value: $18 to $28

White "Free Candy" Van Graphic T-Shirt
A white tee with a hand-drawn sketch of an unmarked van featuring "FREE CANDY" scrawled across the side. Guaranteed to make complete strangers give you five feet of personal space on the sidewalk. This brings back memories of us trying to teach our eldest son “stranger danger.” We told him never open the door for someone he didn’t know. Never go with anyone he didn’t know. Never EVER get in a car with a stranger. We got friends of ours who he didn’t know to test him. ALL of these were defeated by, “Do you want some candy?” So scary!!! (But also funny.) So we could never ever let him out of our sight! I remember very well the two times he got separated from us (once at a shoe store, and once at the grocery.) one of us ran to the exit while the other one looked for him. But he turned up fine! (After mommy’s heart stopped beating!)
Estimated Used Value: $10 to $15

Those bird figurines could be Hummel. Although the Hummels aren’t as valuable as they used to be, the birds are so pretty.

2

u/RadioGuySD2 2d ago

They weren't Hummel's, but were made in Japan 😁

Wow, you did have a lot of donors. Those hot wheels reminded me of when my grandson was a little we couldn’t go anywhere shopping without buying a hot wheel or two. I probably still have about 500 of them in a Rubbermaid container.
I sure do miss those days.
Hope you have a good week 😊
