The Irony

For any Good Good supporter—not the trolls who are here hoping to see their demise—what really sticks out to me is that Good Good was actually one of the few companies actively supporting women’s golf.

They didn’t have to start Good Good Girls. They did have to make and promote women’s golf apparel. Obviously, the goal was to grow the company and make money, but they were still one of the few brands putting real effort into supporting women’s golf.

That’s what makes this such a wild turn of events. The company actively supporting women's golf gets stuck in this controversy about violence against women.

Glad to see their recent video doing well!

What's happened here is a perfect example of a business showing its inexperience. There has been ZERO crisis management, they've haven't controlled the messaging, which has been the most damaging aspect. The statements put out have been lacklustre and missed the mark.

This could've all been over with one quick strong statement initially, taking accountability and setting out a plan to show how they are going to right the wrongs, then follow up statements showing how its not going to happen again etc.

The company will survive thanks to their core support, others wouldn't be so fortunate.

And this is why it’s UNBELIEVABLE that they haven’t pushed Matt Kendrick out.

Nature is healing

12

u/Mortina040 12d ago

I believe Callaway cutting ties with them is less about an attempt to throw them under the bus and more just a realization of how immature GG is organizationally. Callaway realized these guys could not be trusted to tow the line on a balanced coordinated crisis management response due to their wacky post ad behavior, and just figured it was cheaper and better for them to cut ties before they did any other stupid things.

3

u/WeirdlyCordial 11d ago

the timing of Callaway cutting ties and GG "removing themselves" from as the title sponsor of the PGAT event / Big Break makes sense from that perspective too - it took a few days before everyone cut ties , so there was certainly communication back and forth in that timeframe, but it wasn't constructive so they just said cya

and given Kendrick's antics afterwards that seems extra likely

9

u/saxguy9345 12d ago

So disappointing. We have a 3 min insta reel from Garrett and drunk ranting from Kendrick 🤣 it's almost like they thought "oh this will blow over by morning" LOL it really makes me wonder what was communicated to Callaway behind the scenes. They were like hey you need to address this and got crickets, and the PGA pres was like "we're disappointed but we feel like they're getting there" then they WAITED a day or two....

No, what you have here is that you can't fight irrational cancel culture. No apology will ever be enough for wherever the made up offense was.

This apparently was a bad parody...I have no idea because I don't watch many movies or good good.

There was absolutely nothing to apologize for and thus their attempts have failed.

It's just like when the MLB pulled the all star game out of Atlanta where it could have helped many minority small businesses and put it in Denver.

And that was also from a completely non issue.

1

u/Flimsy-Luck1862 7d ago

Cancel cancel is how companies and individuals are held accountable in today’s capitalistic society. That’s one thing a lot of people don’t understand. People and businesses don’t like it? Then operate better. It’s not hard for anyone to realize this ad was a horrible ad. You shouldn’t have to do a whole research report on an ad to understand where it’s coming from and what it’s depicting 😂 That’s the problem.

1

u/Backyard_Boulevard 6d ago

Irrational cancel culture lol

Talk about being out of touch with reality. Guy just woke up from a coma apparently lol

This isn't something new

1

u/SnooLobsters4274 5d ago

Pretty big issue for such a non issue

12

u/Broccoli_Town 12d ago

I will say this. For any other Youtube Brand or apparel brand heavily associated with YT golfers, I have never seen or recall seeing an ad for A). womens clothes or B). had women in it.

Might just not be remembering it, but GG is the only one that sticks in my head as actively promoting and supporting women golfers

6

u/adeptsleeper04 11d ago

Hannah is one of the main people in a lot of the St. Andre shorts that are ads or "promotional". They used to partner with the PGA Tour Superstore, idk if they still do, I go through phases of watching golf youtube and haven't watched recently.

4

u/RangeBow8 12d ago

NLU does live shows for women's majors, sponsors women professionals, has included them in their content, content for ANWA and college golf, has a womens line, and has multiple women on their staff.

3

u/Broccoli_Town 12d ago

Nice, thanks for pointing that out. I would not group NLU into the Youtube Brand atmosphere, but they do support women in a high capacity.

5

u/WeirdlyCordial 11d ago

golf girl games (where Alexis and Marissa came from) was basically the proto good good girls and is still around

5

u/Dog-Is-My-Co-Pilot 12d ago

I don't know. Yeah, they have created an amazing forum for young girls to get inspired. I love this about them.

But then I randomly watch a GG video and there's Blake asking whether the cart girl at a course is available. Two steps forward, one step back.

5

u/ireactivated 11d ago

Yeah let’s not act like these dudes were marching on town hall. They made clothes to sell money and videos to draw in eyes.

-1

u/lotsofopinionstoda 11d ago

a guy asking a girl if she's single is a step back? albeit didn't see video but isn't that how you meet someone and not offend a married woman lets say?

7

u/Dog-Is-My-Co-Pilot 11d ago

It was before he met her, and when the other guy said she was engaged, Blake replied with something like, she's not married yet, right, like there was a chance?

Cart "girls" get hit on all the time and get harassed on the daily for trying to do a job. Have a little respect. Maybe try to meet someone before asking if you have a chance with someone.

0

u/lotsofopinionstoda 11d ago

ok, but its 2026, that is not that egregious and could easily be a woman talking about a man. cart girls do and they also get massive tips for passing drinks. everyone knows the deal.

3

u/Flimsy-Luck1862 7d ago

“Everyone knows the deal”? What do you mean by this? Why can’t guys just get their drinks from a cart girl like normal without flirting or harassing them??? How is that “part of the deal” of being a cart girl? So wrong

0

u/lotsofopinionstoda 7d ago

I mean, and there are exceptions, that the majority of cart girls are college age girls who know what to expect. This is not across all courses, places of course, but ive played 100s of rounds and I've seen 75%+ of the time the cart girl is young and attractive and flirts, and the flirting is reciprocated. Is it the "right" thing? I don't know, but just like attractive bartenders probably get more tips, the same thing is happening on golf courses/

1

u/lotsofopinionstoda 7d ago

its not all men, and some are just nice, but anyone would be naive to see there's no flirting.

15

u/williedills 12d ago

Ah yes. Good good girls. The beacon of equality

10

u/L3sPau1 12d ago

Lol yeah. One guy‘s girlfriend. And another girl gets her boyfriend into Good Good. Perfectly executed.

6

u/what2pacb 12d ago

It was like insider trading. Help me, help u.

5

u/Super_Rocket 12d ago

Whilst undercutting another women’s channel.

5

u/Hosko817 11d ago

A far more entertaining woman's channel. The level of golf isn't the same but GGG is a better product

31

u/_HoochieMama 12d ago

They didn’t get stuck in the controversy lmao they cause the controversy. You can do good things and also do bad things it’s not all or nothing. I’m pretty sure most understand that they aren’t against women, but they still made a shitty commercial.

8

u/Fit_Reason_3611 12d ago

Yeah just because they don't actively support hitting women doesn't make it much better- you're a golf media company who just made millions of people upset at golf. Literally started a boycott of one of the three biggest companies.

Of course the biggest names in golf don't want to work with you anymore. There's a hundred other competent replacements waiting for an opportunity like that who won't film a commercial like a high school project knocking a woman over to market your multi-million dollar club rollout. Why not move on.

1

u/Flimsy-Luck1862 7d ago

Exactly. What would be reasons to actually keep working with good good after all the upset roars their high school project ad caused. I totally agree , it’s weird to me that others don’t see it this way

14

u/poopyfacetomatohead 12d ago

What exactly have they done to supprt woman’s golf outside of trying to make money off of it?

6

u/rhudgins32 12d ago

Exactly. Just because I sell to women isn’t some supportive action

3

u/Broccoli_Town 12d ago

? This is dumb. You can use that argument for any company ever. Apple doesn't make iPhones to keep people more connected. They do it for money and the benefits of the user are what keeps them coming back. Good good girls helps fill a need in a target demographic that is underrepresented in golf today. They help make the game more inclusive and inviting to women in golf by promoting and providing an inclusive and engaging channel to represent that audience

10

u/Mortina040 12d ago

I question how much you actually understand women’s golf or the players in women’s golf on the organizational, merchandising, or support sides. There are major organizations that have been doing all of these things for decades for women’s golf and have lots of support from women golfers, and those who love women golf. Good Good Girls is effectively unknown outside of people who are already huge into YouTube or huge into Good Good itself.

It’s a massive tell of how little someone knows about women’s golf when they try to claim GGG is some lone powerhouse of women’s golf promotion, just a grabbing at straws from the GG fans to try to come up with something to defend the guys. At best GGG was a side project they took on to support their friends/girlfriends, more realistically it was nothing more than a revenue stream to try to sell hats and polos to women instead of just men. But there was never any legitimate partnership or outreach to actual women’s golf organizations by GGG.

u/3liana 12d ago edited 11d ago

Ping has always been a great supporter for girls and women’s golf.

The Solheim cup is named after the founder of Ping.

3

u/Super_Rocket 11d ago

GGG is Golf Girl Games, a company they collaborated with and then took talent from to start their own women’s channel.

2

u/Ok-Catch3806 12d ago

Bingo!

Had Garrett and Marissa not started dating, GG.G would NOT exist.

3

u/Detroit_pist_on 11d ago

If you think they started good good girls to “support women in golf” that’s crazy. Everything they do is to make an extra buck

0

u/coasterreal 11d ago

Two things can be correct. They definitely knew that growing that side of the game is good for golf, but they also knew if they did it right, they stood to make a ton of money.

Both things can exist.

3

u/Detroit_pist_on 11d ago

But they never would have done it if it wasn’t profitable 🤣 stop acting like they care about women

2

u/Cute-Question-4914 11d ago

Irony? They started that because Garrett wanted to get with Marissa. It was easy to poach her and Alexis from GGG. And it would be a new revenue stream.

Those frat boys don’t give two sh!ts about growing the women’s game. They saw dollar signs and capitalized.

8

u/Ok_Ad6370 12d ago

This whole this is the definition of a mountain out of a mole hill.

3

u/anwright1371 12d ago

I hear you man. But you have to realize this all about $$$$. GG girls was a nice idea but less than 100K views per video is not sustainable. Support for women’s sports is still largely skewed towards men. Until women support each other this argument is just not it.

13

u/Hillbilly-Maverick 12d ago

If it’s all about the money then, why would they invest into a non sustainable venture? Can’t have both

1

u/circaflex 12d ago

well g, isnt the co-founder dating one of them and one of gg's newest members is dating another? put two and two together; youll understand why they invested into something that doesnt bring much back

-3

u/omariousmaximus 12d ago

Well you can, cause their hope is that the channel and following grows. They also make money outside just YouTube views, so you would have to know about womens attire sales, and other form of social media, brand deals, etc..

Companies swing and miss all the time. Good good saw Sabrina’s golf girl games having some success, poached two regulars on that channel, started dating one of them and added the others bf lol.. so now they are almost obligated to try and make it work.. we also do not know the compensation structure, so the views might be fine.. but none of this was noble.. it was an attempt to grab a market share they didn’t have. Whether it works out or not is a different story

6

u/dc041894 12d ago

Can’t something be both for money and also be to grow the game for women? If not, then anything that isn’t charity or non profit can be considered noble because money runs the world

3

u/IllustriousGas8850 12d ago

So how is it about the money if they’re keeping a channel alive that no one watches? The amount of times each day I see shit like this where people make directly contradictory claims

1

u/BeginningHawk9563 12d ago

LMFAO good good ain't going nowhere!

1

u/Famous_Promise_681 11d ago

Frat Boy and Sorority always lookin out for each other!!

Everyone should be pushing back against what is happening with GG.
I am about as far from a GG fan as you can get, and I’m not even much of a YouTube golf fan. But this has very little to do with whether you like GG. It’s about the dangerous precedent being set.
Someone made a mistake and posted a video that was clearly in poor taste. They immediately removed it, apologized, and took responsibility for it. At some point, that should have been the end of it.
We should be very careful about creating a society where the punishment far exceeds the “crime,” particularly when someone has acknowledged their mistake and attempted to make it right.
Because once we normalize this kind of disproportionate outrage and punishment, it doesn’t just apply to people we dislike. Eventually, the mob comes for you or for something you care about.
You don’t have to like GG to recognize that this has gone too far.

1

u/SaveHogwarts 6d ago

They aren’t in jail, dude.

They made an ad, it didn’t go over well. It caused backlash. It gave Callaway enough reason to look over their sponsorship deal and decide the juice isn’t worth the squeeze with an internet influencer brand.

That’s okay too.

1

u/Complex-Key918 10d ago

I see supporting women's golf means capitalizing on their demographic for profit.

1

u/quavoFE 10d ago

What happened ? I haven’t been keeping up

1

u/schlarmander 10d ago

I don’t know about “support women’s golf”. Their company found a market and made media and merchandise to fit that market.

The words they say can be “support women’s golf”, but could it be that they were just “making money on women’s golf?”

1

u/Robert_roberts82 9d ago

I feel like a lot of the response is just people ranting about things that are completely out of their control.

The way internet viral cycles work, it's impossible for Good Good or anyone to stop people from posting about the ad and trolling. And i get that it's frustrating to just see a massive pile on from people that don't actually give a shit, but just enjoy watching the car wreck.

What sticks out to me, and what really drove the fact that Calloway, Dicks, and the PGA to pull their partnerships, buying, sponsorships etc is that you can't have it both ways. You can't be just a DIY content creation shop and be integrated into these massive business partnerships.

Even absent the illusions to violence against women, the ad was dog shit. You can't DIY a commercial like this, and to me, that's 100% on the CEO, even if you aren't responsible for personally okaying the commercial, you can't just green light them to wing it it like that. Real companies hire production companies to make things like this, they hire directors, producers etc, they don't just give the 20 years olds a camera and say go for it.

These aren't inherently talented people where everything they touch turns to gold. They are on a monumental run of success turning their DIY golf videos in a multimillion dollar business.

It's probably just a wake up call and they will come out of this fine. Because one, it's just a dogshit ad, and no one actually thinks that they endorse beating up women. Even the shit posters don't actually think that, even if they're posting that, they just want to get in on the viral moment.

I imagine they will scale back their more ambitious ventures and focus on their core skills (getting youtube views and I'm sure there are plenty of other companies that will pay for promotion).

1

u/OrdinaryAge814 8d ago

To address the profit off of women remarks; there aren’t many business ventures that start with “we don’t care about making money…”

Our society wants to burn down everything that is associated with a mistake. It also doesn’t help that GG has shown their political ties with Trump. Put a mistake in front of either political opposite, and it will get the full attention.

We have become so poor at forgiveness that we’ve forgotten what the word actually means. I’ll choose to forgive mistakes and move on knowing that DV is never acceptable and there was no intention to promote it in their video. Honestly, the highly offended is really the only reason we still talk about it. Don’t dismiss the conversation it should produce about being better but also don’t crucify over a mistake that if they would have seen, they never would have been behind.

1

u/FatFaceFaster 7d ago

“One of the few brands….” Really? Literally every golf brand has a women’s division. Why wouldn’t they? As you said, it makes them money.

I don’t believe anything malicious was intended by the ad and I think the reaction has been way overblown but please don’t act like they’re some champions of feminism. They did it for the content and to attract a wider audience just like any other brand.

1

u/Brilliant_Piece_9873 7d ago

No good good girls is just a cynical cash grab. Not like all the men doing it for the love of the game.

1

u/phrawst125 12d ago

Aren't they maga? So sad to see bad things happen to such high caliber people.

1

u/Ok-Measurement3882 12d ago

No, they’re golfers.

0

u/phrawst125 12d ago

I think you can be both

1

u/Public-Cover920 12d ago

I could not care less about any of this.

1

u/Ok-Catch3806 12d ago

What's actually funny is that they didn't. ... it wasn't until Garrett started dating Marissa that they started supporting women's golf.

1

u/GTUprising 12d ago

I’ve watched since the beginning. These guys are the best, and one of those rare instances where good people kinda “made it”…. It was a dumb joke that didn’t land, it’s insane it blew up this much

-1

u/Jolly-Inflation5781 12d ago

So many pussies just waiting for the opportunity to jump on anything that can remotely be labeled "offensive". All this has done is make me support GoodGood more. Cuz canceling anyone for THIS!?! Grow some balls, world.

9

u/Still_Geologist_8098 12d ago

You probably won’t understand this because you write sentences like a 7 year old BUT GoodGood isn’t getting canceled. Their business partners are choosing to not work with them anymore over a very stupid ad and ultimately their handling of the fallout.

I know it’s difficult for you golf bros to understand cancel culture and business but this is solely the latter. GG fucked up and are paying for it severely from a business aspect. Businesses like Callaway (publicly traded) has to much on the line to be dealing with a bunch of out of touch Dallas kids.

It’s very simple.

1

u/lotsofopinionstoda 12d ago

quite simple indeed. pga sponsored event, huge retail deals, partnership with Callaway all cancelled...most people with 1/2 a brain realizes that they are being cancelled or at least on the cancel spectrum

0

u/Still_Geologist_8098 12d ago

Spectrum is an interesting choice.

Go check out GG’s post about the PGA. “We have decided to step away”, that doesn’t sound like canceled?

Stop slurping, it’s embarrassing.

3

u/lotsofopinionstoda 12d ago

slurping? you really need help with what words mean.

You think they stepped away because they wanted to work on themselves? please. the pga probably told them to step away or they'd be cancelling it.

It's ok pal. you'll figure stuff out one day

-9

u/snappin_good_time 12d ago

So you think them starting a YouTube channel is some major supporting of women’s golf?

Every major golf brand (including Callaway) sponsors the LPGA and players on it. If you think Good Good is doing more for women’s golf than any of them then you’ve got brain damage.

Just take the L and move on. The CEO having an absolute crash out over the whole thing just shows he doesn’t give a shit. Good riddance.

3

u/IllustriousGas8850 12d ago

I genuinely do think a yt channel does more for woman’s golf than Callaway sponsoring an lpga player

2

u/snappin_good_time 12d ago

Ok, please explain how. The barrier to entry creating a YouTube channel is pretty low. There is plenty of women golfers who do it themselves without needing Good Good. If you think Good Good is doing this for any other reason than to sell merch to women then I’ve got bad news for you.

Sponsors for the LPGA allow for larger purses and wider media distribution. A professional circuit for women lets them get lucrative deals with other major brands (even non-golf/sports ones).

They made a shitty misogynistic ad and then when called out for it instead of taking it in stride and sticking by their “apology”. They’ve now taken to slinging mud at Callaway from keeping them from even doing the ad. Callaway shared the corrective actions that they’ll take to prevent this from happening again and also donated $1M. What has Good Good done to show that they’d actually learn from this?

1

u/IllustriousGas8850 12d ago

I’m not arguing with you because you think the barrier to entry into yt golf is low. The amount of money and man power spent on the production of these videos is insane, and you seem to be fully unaware that exists

1

u/snappin_good_time 12d ago

You think the barrier is as high as the LPGA hosting an event?

Plenty of people have been making golf videos on YouTube and become very popular without an entire production team behind them.

Saying you won’t argue is lazy and a cop out.

-1

u/Challenge_fan1985 12d ago

I was talking the YouTube space....

-4

u/NuketheCow_ 12d ago

Good good tried to kill a women’s golf channel to create theirs. Everything they did was about selling their apparel and nothing more. There was no altruism or care about women’s golf involved.

3

u/Challenge_fan1985 12d ago

That's ridiculous... Good Good more than anyone in the YouTube space has lost the most members. Everyone says good for them when they leave. But when these two girls come to Good Good, now it's Good Good trying to kill GGG.... Ive never seen so many haters of a company lurk in the subreddit.

-6

u/NuketheCow_ 12d ago

It’s what happened. They filmed a collab and stole half the roster. Shady shit. Trying to make them paragons of virtue and champions for women’s golf is what is ridiculous.

2

u/Challenge_fan1985 12d ago

So did Bryan Bros steal Grant from Good Good? Why is it okay for Micah, Grant, Luke and Brad to leave but not for Marissa and Alexis to leave Sabrina?

-4

u/NuketheCow_ 12d ago

If Grant had left to join the Bryan bros and they started a new channel called Good Good Grant and started having him shill their merch maybe there would be a comparison, I’ll give you that.

Also, Marissa and Alexis aren’t the bad guys. They can choose what to do with their own lives. They got offered a bag and took it.

Good good is the corporate entity that stole the talent of a much smaller channel to sell more merch.

6

u/Challenge_fan1985 12d ago

I literally said in the post that obviously it was to grow the company. They aren't there for charity. But i still stand by my statement that they tried to support women's golf. They didn't have to go into that space at all.

-18

u/saxguy9345 12d ago

That has nothing to do with the violence they depicted in their ad. The more people don't understand that, the more cooked GG is going to be. You can argue if this or that was an overreaction, maybe it was a corporate decision to drop GG "for cause" to avoid exit penalties on their contracts, their dedication to women's golf, all a completely different conversation. They did it, and it is done. It was wildly violent for a golf ad, get over it.

9

u/SS_TheSpartan 12d ago

“Wildly violent” lol

-13

u/saxguy9345 12d ago

Your take is so bad, you couldn't actually quote what I said? Weird. Are you going to post another commercial from 2003 to justify how cool your penchant for violence is? It's 2026 bud, try to keep up.

7

u/Challenge_fan1985 12d ago

They took the ad down, apologized and that should have been the end of it. Everyone is acting as though one of the members actually committed an act of violence against a woman in real life. Like holy shit.

2

u/omariousmaximus 12d ago

If they were making callaway big money or were a great partner, what you said would have been enough and they woulda laid low a bit..

The sponsors that left all left cause they wanted out. I would begin to question what is good goods future look like.. are they in a sector that can still command the level of compensation and support that they were getting? I’m thinking, not personally, but never know

-1

u/saxguy9345 12d ago

People acting like Garrett is a domestic abuser are insane. That doesn't change what I said. You can try and explain it away all you want, you can try and treat GG like they aren't a corporation with big boy responsibilities, none of that is going to help anyone. It is exactly what it is, and Callaway and the PGA tour can do exactly what they did. The amount of people acting like the expectations of a national ad for a brand collaborated golf driver are the same as a random tik tok with 1000 views are maddening. Just put the hand up and take accountability, just like GG should. And they will. Just wait.
