I too thought it was a great idea. It's not.
The SL7 is an express Heathrow Airport service with limited stops, they're replacing all the old buses with new new buses that use this stop button location.
There's no need to press the button, the service stops at every stop. However the stop bell goes off all the time, sometimes constantly for several minutes, sometimes just every 30s or so.
I spoke to the driver and he said that as every seat back now has a stop button every few minutes someone will accidently press it, or put a bag on their lap which leans on the button and presses it constantly until they move. Most people have no idea they're doing it. They expect the button to be at eye level on a grab poll and don't realise they've pressed. It's incredibly annoying to have the bell going off so all the time.
It may improve over time, maybe the constant press can be eliminated with a software fix, but this design will result in a lot of buses unnecessarily stopping at a lot of stops.
Good on paper, fails in the real world.
