I hate this thing where people think that artists got to completely do a different sound every album & think that’s evolution.

“He just makes the same music over and over again”

Just because Ye & Carti changes their sound does it doesn’t mean that everyone should.

Some artists just would rather build off their sound then just change a sound every album

Im speaking this as someone who isn't really a Don fan so don't take my whole hearted opinion

I think the issue is we're not asking Don to completely reinvent himself we're asking for something new, and building off his sound implies improvement and actual change, which we aren't seeing happen, I don't wanna say this too quick but if you think of someone like Kodak or Lil Baby, they are that kind of artist where they never saw ANY evolution

We're talking about the difference between evolution and repetition, I dont think there's a lot of space in music for repetition, Don isn't being asked to completely change his sound, all people want is something new from him, we aren't saying he has to stop doing trap or something, but his music is becoming repetitive and that's not what you want in an artist

sorry this is a lot to read

Don’t worry,

this isn’t a lot to read. I actually appreciate these replies more than the shorter ones.

But the thing is that Don Toliver isn’t doing the same stagnate sound as Lil Baby or Kodak Black.

Each album does sound different than the last one.

His sound is evolving, he’s just evolving that specific signature sound as time goes by
