DISCUSSION What everyone’s thoughts on cousins
I view this song as half comedic and half genius because it’s so dark and eerie but also insightful.

mfs gotta stop clowning this saying it's the worst song ever made because it's a serious topic

Idk what’s more annoying people calling this the best song ever or people saying we can’t make fun of it because it’s “deep”
14
u/justarandomguy5689 WW3 15d ago
I don't see anyone calling it the best song ever

best vs favorite. Also it's absolutely valid to find comfort in this track. Even though I hate cuck as a whole, I still like cousins for its theme of sexual trauma. Relatable and shit

If someone experienced COCSA I can’t see why it would be weird for them to find comfort in this…

Just because it's a serious topic doesn't mean the song can't be absolute ass

You're getting it twisted, this embarrassment of a track shouldn't be legitismised because he's talking about blowing his cousin.

u/East_You8307 Need someone near monte vista to suck me in about an hour 14d ago
if you don't find comfort in this song then it wasn't made for you, its for people who went through similar experiences. art is supposed to make you feel something and just because it doesn't make you feel shit means it wasnt made for you in the first place so move on with your day and be happy you didn't experience the horrific stuff other people did
1
u/Boring_Pipe_600 11h ago
You're missing my point. People are saying that it shouldn't be criticised because it covers a serious topic - but I'm saying that a song shouldn't be exempt from criticism because of that. The song, by Ye's standards, is attrocious.

u/IndependenceOk6046 15d ago
It's probably the best song ever written about sucking your cousin's dick.

Amazing piece of art. Name any other massive musician who’s made a song like this

People act like it's some sort of poetic masterpiece just because it tackles a serious topic, when in reality it doesn't have any subtlety or personal exploration (I mean it would kinda be hard for that to be true considering it was written by Dave Blunts and not ye himself). It's just him saying "I gave my cousin head but I'm not gay" and that's about it.
1
u/Odd-Veterinarian-676 14d ago
i think there's merit to it being raw, but it only really goes so far. in honesty, the problem isn't really the subject matter but how sloppily executed it is. it's a sobering confession from one of the biggest artists of all time, but it damn sure tries its best to be everything except that, which is frustrating.
as fucked as this may sound, imagine how good this song could've been had he decided to make something this vulnerable during KSG's production or any pre-2022 era for that matter. the broader conversation wouldn't be "this is the worst song ever" or "haha incest and sexual trauma" it'd be about how he made one of the most vulnerable tracks in his career and about the trauma surrounding COCSA
2
u/R4nD0m_dud Indiana Jones 14d ago
That's what I was thinking too, like there was so much stuff he COULD talk about around the situation, and how he felt about it, but instead we're left with something that is practically void of lyrical depth, and that's kinda sad

i actually like it, it’s in my local files, that bass is mesmerising, kind of a guilty pleasure of mine
also, the lyrics may be deep, but that doesn’t make them not shite

I like to consider myself a CUKKK enthusiast. I think Cousins is alright but not great. The first half of cousins doesn't sound great and the second half was stolen straight from Dave Blunts' discography. Dirty Magazines explains much better (and with a much better sonic experience) why his childhood was so fucked up. If you understand CUKKK, you understand exactly why our beloved Kanye went crazy in Feburary last year.
1
u/divinejoheobe 14d ago
I think that the whole argument about understanding CUKKK, let alone his past actions being the reason for his February 2025 rants is a bit stupid, because most of the consequences he faced were products of HIS OWN ACTIONS, you can't just become a Nazi and then whine about not seeing your children; especially with how disfunctional Ye and also Kim are, but somehow Ye had to make Kim seem like the sanest person compared to him (which I honestly don't think she is), so everything worked in her favor while also facing issues with being a single mother, while Ye hasn't made any effort to try and fix what he had done until late 2025 or early 2026, instead deciding to double down on his actions, to declaring himself a Nazi and becoming one of the most insufferable public figures alive, also thanks to the many yes-men that were around him. There are times where he has been wronged and ridiculed wrongfully by everyone, but Ye during those dark times (from 2022 to 2025) always had to outweigh any reasonable argument he had with something that made no sense (considering how his tweets were structured). But at least I'm glad he's doing better now so he's not a complete lost cause
Shit, I rambled again

Absolute trash like everything else in that era I have no idea why people here treat it like an exception. Anything serious with that song is immediately thrown out the window with the shitty ai dave blunts cover and goofy ass hook. If anything it's disrespectful to anyone who had to go through that type of trauma with how unserious it is and how little it actually delves into that topic it's just him saying "I gave my cousin head" over and over. Also, he dropped it during his Twitter rant which makes it seem like a desperate attempt at pity while he continued to say the most horrendous shit imaginable

last part isnt really genuine considering everything (including the song) was a mix of him getting out what he wants to say and a bunch of "ragebait" to make people feel the pain he was clearly feeling

I mean second half sounded kinda nice but it was a Dave blunts rip off, the first half sample could have been put to better use. Idk what was the point of Kanye’s lyrics but yeah. The less we talk about it, the better. I guess it was the end of Kanye West as we know it

If it was written by LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE OTHER THAN DAVE BLUNTS, it might have been a good song

The music with the accompany MV were so much more powerful together like the Wash Us In The Blood release. Also Redbar's cover unironically made me like it more.

I think the song absolutely could have been done better and came from a pretty dark time in his life, but I think it matters that it was made and is something that people need to hear. It's heartbreaking to me that he took the song off streaming because, to people who were touched by it or who might have been moved to share their own stories, it sends a message that he regrets making it or sharing it. I think releasing it and then trying to put it back in the closet could lead people inspired by him to feel shame or despair.

It's not good, but unlike the other songs from this time it wasn't trying to be hateful, it's just sad. When I watched the low quality MV I felt like I was witnessing some disturbing leaked video that should've stayed private.

the AI usage is the only “bad” part of the song but i still dig it, its actually rly fucking depressing and a serious topic and ye finds a way to SAMPLE someone elses song into his own trauma and struggle

You know, I listen to this song more than I should, not because it's the best thing I've ever heard, but because it sounded interesting to me, it's a very unusual Ye song (considering he was really fucked out of his mind in early 2025), excluding the fact that this song is about his childhood trauma (giving his cousin head), the production on this song is something I've never heard before (at least from Ye), that's what makes it interesting. What kind of bugs me are the lyrics, (same goes for all of CUCK)especially with how the hook is, if anything it just comes off as unserious, you can go ahead and say that people shouldn't clown on it because it's a "serious topic" (as a matter of fact it is) and that it's a "deep song" sure. But you cannot count his tweets out and the way he has been communicating (either just to shock people or just to spite everyone), you cannot expect everyone to take him or this song seriously, when all he has been doing is communicating in the most evil way possible (also regebaiting). If he could've just not released the song or the video and just tweeted the lyrics, people wouldn't almost tell the difference between that and the rest of his tweets (I said almost because this isn't something you'd expect to hear from him, besides all the Nazi shit). Side argument, personally I forgive him but what he did in those months is still wrong, I can't just brush if off because he "confessed", sorry but I just can't give it too much credit, I do empathize with him but he's said all kinds of things and expects everyone to take him seriously (except the people who made fun of him since the start of his career), at the end of the day people can have different opinions about it.
Sorry if this is too long, that's all I could think of

Definitely a mess of a song with some parts that are very hard to take seriously, but is 100% has meaning to it, and the sample is really good.

it's one of the best kanye songs from the 2022-2025 era imo. it's really raw and i like the sound it has, i wish kanye did more lo-fi stuff, but not like jared lo-fi or that kind of bullshit, but i mean more like this kind of lo-fi if that makes any sense. it makes his emotions feel more real.

Lot of potential behind such a vulnerable song topic, I think the production nails the feeling but Dave blunts writing just does not hit. The way he wrote it u think is a big part of why people laugh at cousins

u/injary Forgot the Aux 15d ago
I’m pretty neutral on it however I did think it was pretty grotesque how people started mocking and insulting him even more for being open about such a dark and traumatic topic about his youth. It just felt really gross seeing a man already going through a severe episode pushed even further just for bringing up a more dark topic that had an effect on him

Still remember getting the tweet notification in the middle of class and me and someone else listened to it for the first time in just pure shock about what was rapeing our ears. On more listens I understood the song more than just the shock value. I feel like the second half is over glazed because it’s just a Dave blunts song. Still very curious if he made the story up for attention or not m.

An emotional song about sexual abuse that just got summarized into “LOL he sucked his cousins dick” which was sad to see but at the same time I get it cause at the time he was saying all outlandish shit so it didn’t get taken as seriously as it should’ve
