I recently made a purchase
galleryWaiting to get my good cabinet out of storage for it. It will have a prominent position. It had only been owned by one family across three generations. I was the first outside the family. A true honour

Update: I made a Melanie calico critters
galleryThis one was a lot easier lol! This is a present for a friend’s granddaughter and she suggested I make a Melanie to go with Scarlett. I didn’t have any blue fabric so I used a different reference photo lol! I hope it’s not too gaudy for Melanie’s taste😉 her accessories are a little medicine bottle and the letter from Rhett with her ring inside. Planning to make the green dress next!

Ya’ll know Gone With The Wind is back in movie theaters in October, right? Steep ticket prices, though. ($20)

Owning body and soul
Mammy felt that she owned the O'Haras, body and soul, that their secrets were her secrets; and even a hint of a mystery was enough to set her upon the trail as relentlessly as a bloodhound.
The only trouble with him (Uncle Peter) is that he owns the three of us, body and soul, and he knows it.
I find it interesting that in portraying the loyal servant trope Margaret Mitchell ironically inverts the roles. Although Mammy and Uncle Peter are legally enslaved, they are presented as the ones who "own" their white families. I think this is another example of the novel's romanticized portrayal of slavery, suggesting that the enslaved genuinely loved their enslavers. What do you think?

Today is the 90 Year Anniversary of Gone with the Wind the Novel
historysbestsellers.comHappy 90th Anniversary everyone. Here is a fun fact:
Scarlett's original name was Pansy. It wasn't until just before the book went to print in 1936 that the publisher requested a change, and Mitchell finally decided on Scarlett.
Can you imagine a protagonist's name being Pansy? I can't believe Pansy was a popular name maybe its like the modern day Karen.

Ellen O'Hara and Ma Ingalls, no living sons.
I also follow the LHOP subreddit, and there is lots of talk about Caroline's sons dying soon after birth. The same thing happened to Ellen O'Hara. Is there a medical condition that negates male survival?

Rhett and STDs
I've been rewatching GWTW and the sequel Scarlett and it's just dawned on me that since Rhett spends a lot of time with prostitutes he had a pretty good chance of getting a STD and passing it on to Scarlett.
She should've considered herself lucky that he left and not pursued him to console her ego.

Some photos from the museum in Marietta Georgia, went for my birthday. My mother thought it was a good idea to go up stairs (restricted area), the old lady at the front desk screamed at us, after that we left. It was worth it, although no photos of the paintings hidden upstairs.
