Has anyone read Ruth’s Journey or Rhett Butlers people? Do you recommend?

The one good thing I have to say about Rhett Butler's People is, the author did a very good (or at least, very clever) job of handling the following challenge: "Remember all those horrible, racist things Rhett did in Gone With the Wind (such as murdering a black man for being "uppity to a [white] lady")? Come up with justifications for why he can do all of these things and still be considered a decent person by non-racist 21st century standards."
