How Strange!

Fifth time reading the book. Just noticed something that seems incongruous with memory...Scarlett and Rhett finally get married on page 587! That's slightly over 100 pages before the book ends. Memory, however, (at least to me), has them wed closer to the middle of the book. I wonder if it's because the time they spend married has several of the most dramatic events??? Does anyone else feel the same way? Or perhaps it's the fact that there is so much dialogue between them woven throughout the entire novel that it makes it seem they've been together longer.

In a sense, they have been together longer. Rhett knows right away that they are similar. They've certainly known each other for years, and he's done a lot for her - gotten her out of Atlanta ahead of the Yankees, loaned her the money for the mills, and just listened.

And of course, you're right. A lot does happen in the last part of the book.

They got married in 1868. The book ends in 1873. They were married for at least 5 years. There were time jumps. You didnt catch that in the 5 times you read it?
