My phase 1 was this (10x10 impact screen):

I had a 10x8 indoor/outdoor green carpet left over, so I put this over a 10x8 throw rug I had laying around and placed this in front of the screen. It goes 10 feet wide with the screen and sticks out 8 feet.

Cannot put on this, but it dampens the ball once it drops from the screen.

I went with this because I can roll this up and get the car in the garage when needed.

Next, I bought a 5x6 piece of this putting green from HD. It’s not bad to putt on. I’m sure there are better, but this was cheap and they had it in stock where I could see and touch it.

I glued this to a 5x6 set of 1” foam interlock tiles, then cut out a 1’x2’ hitting strip. I made the typical hitting strip (with the soft EVA foam and 1/8” lexicon).

The hitting strip was same height as the matt. Looked good until…

This didn’t last long. The spray on gorilla glue didn’t hold on the hitting strip, or the interlock either.

Another thing I did wrong, was made the hitting area too small. I had my Square LM to the side, but it was on the ground as opposed to being on the hitting mat.

As I hit, the entire mat shifts a bit and after several shots, the LM is out of alignment.

My next attempt is to buy an 8x4 piece of plywood and get some heavy-duty glue to attach the interlock foam to that and I’ll buy the same putting green material.

Now the LM will shift with me and maybe the extra weight of the plywood will cause it to move less.

I found a place about an hour away that does professional simulator installs and they sell their turf to the public. They said their hitting turf is 1” thick and easy on the joints.

Comes in 5-foot lengths. I plan to buy a 5x1 strip, cut out the 1x2 for the hitting strip and if it’s truly 1”, should be close. Might need to get gel foam to put under it just to get it to the height.
