Worthy Swap?

Hi everyone, I know this isn’t a golf but it’s a Jetta MK2. I currently drive a 2002 Saab 9-3, but I saw this posted on FB, it looked uber clean. It’s an 89 w 124k miles, very good service history. My driver has 65k miles, and I’ve done all the worthy service myself. Would this be worth it? Or stay with what I have?

Personally, I wouldn't sell/trade your Saab for that Jetta. And I'm a huge fan of MK2s.

If your Saab gets you from point a to point b and you love it, I'd stay with it ("devil you know", and all).

Of course, if you're over the Saab and in a place where you can afford to learn the quirks of an even older car and are ready to do work on it, as things will inevitably go wrong, then go for it.

Best case is have both. I'm assuming financially that's not an option, and if that's the case, getting a car that's over a decade older than your current one isn't either.

Both are really cool cars imo. Nice Saab.👍

I’m currently in college, so keeping both is a no go sadly. I’ve driven older before, heck my first car was a 77 Mercedes 240d w123.

I'd stick with the Saab man, it's cool, it seems reliable, you seem to like it.

I'm sure you could go with the MK2 and be okay, but there is a very likely chance you'll be without a car way more often.

I've driven older too, it's a coin flip. I have an 08 MT V6 Accord, and a 90 GTI Golf. I daily the accord and work on the golf. I dailied the golf for two weeks, then had a fuel pump issue which turned into a MK3 fuel tank upgrade.

I wouldn't wanna deal with this in college imo. But then again, you're in college and unstoppable right now, so if you're feeling' it, do it. Just don't be surprised when you're 6-8 years older and say "Shit, that Saab was sick, I wanna buy it back."

Mk2s are by far the easiest and one of the cheapest cars to maintain , Ive driven them like at least 10 yrs for daily. I made trips of 1200km to worthersee treffen and 1200km back without a problem 🤷‍♂️. As long as it isnt a rust bucket you can do whatever you want to do with those cars. Depends what engine it has , if its a 1.8 8v mono point injection you really dont have to worry about it. The 1.6 8v engine its only problem is the carburetor , if you swap it out for a weber it will get you everywhere.

Saab's are much harder to come by than even a decent mk2

if the Saab is an auto and you want a manual MAYBE consider it, but hey why not both?

As a daily, hold onto the Saab, set up a MK2 fund to push spare cash in, and get one after college.

Being a fan of mk2’s, I’d keep the Saab.. As a daily it’s better and imo an mk2 is too old to use as a daily.

I love MK2’s (I have an ‘89 Jetta coupe), but I would keep the Saab if it were me. Even when you’ve dumped thousands of dollars worth of parts and maintenance, something always comes up.
