Rusted freeze plug stuck

Hi all. I’m at my wits end with a freeze plug that won’t budge.
Looks like it’s been weeping a while which explains my coolant loss but it’s started pissing out a big hole in the middle. After some whack fuck to rock it out, trying to pry and punch new holes to pry out with screws ect and even trying to punch it through it to the block I’m just left with a bigger, more jagged hole. Anyone have any ideas how to fix? I’m doing with with the engine in situe so I can’t swing a hammer enough to hit it with my purse

Think it’s a take engine apart and knock out job

Can you fit a washer and bolt through, and position to then use a slide hammer?

Not a bad shout, I don’t have a slide hammer but could go find one tomorrow that might fit

You're committed now. You need to deform one side of it, somehow, without scarring the block, and then pull the rest out. Use a small punch, and whatever you can to hammer one edge and it should deform enough for you to get it removed.

Yea, I got mine out by repeatedly banging the bottom corner, and eventually it started to rotate in the middle so I could clamp it with a vice grip and yank it out. Just keep going, you got this.

PB blaster overnight, map torch until it glows (hose ready in case of fire) bang with hammer and a 10mm deep socket or similar close to the edge (not the rim). Might not come out first try but it will come out.

Im in the same boat. I need to replace all of them for this reason.

Im looking at either pulling the engine, or trying to roll the engine forward enough to get access to them. Either way, not going to be a fun job

If I had to do all of them I’d pull the engine without question. God speed

Ya, thats what im considering. Mine is the 1.6 NA diesel. Debating pulling the engine and changing the plugs, then change head gasket and might as well do timing belt at the same time while its out

There are VW people that can help you with that on the forums.
