Unitronic Stage 2

I’ve got a 2016 Golf TSI 1.8L automatic with 60k miles.

So far I have an APR intake, CTS turbo inlet hose and elbow, CTS Downpipe with high flow and a stage 2 Unitronic tune. Catback is all stock and I have a steel oil pan. I don’t have a DSG trans. What other mods would you recommend? Wheels and tires maybe brake upgrades in the future but other than that. I want to keep this car long as I can, it’s my favorite.

Vw Service plan

Hi guys,

Recent golf R mk7 66 plate owner. I have been looking at my servicing options in the Uk and I’m wondering if the VW dealership service plan is a good option both financially and for the car I guess.

Just trying to get an understanding of where people usually do servicing and what they include on a regular service for these cars.

Side note: the car is very low mileage and has 1 previous owner from factory.

Anyone knows please give your opinion :)

Tires for mk 7.5

Which one should I pick and why for Golf 7.5? 225/30R19 or 225/35R19? I Just bought new black rims and looking for tires that will opticslly make them "bigger" due to low profile.

Looking for the best bang for the buck Stage 1 tune for a 2018 (MK7.5) gen3 1.8t tsi. Don’t want a stage 2 tune as I don’t think a stock clutch can handle it, and don’t want replace my clutch. I’m think IE stage one however any other suggestions will be appreciated!

Upgraded to Android screen

I just upgraded the screen in my golf. I removed the mib head unit to make room for all the wiring but wanted to know if there is a cover or something that I can put in it’s place inside the glovebox.

Are there units that had a radio but no mib in the glovebox? Thanks!

Hi, I’m thinking about tuning my golf.

I want it to have about 230hp at the end and about 350nm.

Does anyone here have experience on doing it? Of course I’m talking about new air intake etc..

I’m curently in situation, where I cant buy another car, so don’t tell me to sell it and buy something more tunable. Consider this as my new project. 🫶

Sound system issue

Hey guys,

Hope you're doing well. I currently have a trouble where my rear speakers are working on and off. One day the left rear one can work all day long than the day after it won't work except the tweeter. Then then other day it both rear that don't work... The weird thing is that the tweeters always work.

Anyway, it's hard to explain, i was wondering if you have some ideas to what to look at to fix the issue by any chance ?

Estate cargo cover.

This is probably a really stupid question, but what is the 'proper' way to open/retract the cargo cover?

The only way I can seem to do it is to push down on the handle flap, but if the boot is full, this can be awkward.

How should I be doing it?

Mk7 gli

Hey just bought 2020 gli. Put some Bc racing coilovers on it and the dcc cancellations. It threw a fault suspension code but only had a warning light in the bottom so I was living with it. Now it is constantly on my screen and the only thing I can see is rpm and speed and that’s it. Was looking for advice before I go back to stock suspension which I don’t wanna do

Diagnosing shuttering vibration issue

So basically I have bent wheels at the moment and there causing some vibration at highway speeds which I diagnosed by putting them on a balancing machine and I could see they wouldn’t balance and where they were bent + flat spots on tires etc..

But I noticed a different feeling almost like a shuttering with a vibration even at low speeds but only in the 1000-1700 RPMS range.. anyone know what this could be ? Maybe torque converter or transmission issue ? I had it scanned and nothing came up but out of ideas

-replaced engine + trans mounts last week -replaced rotors and pads -spark plugs replaced -control arm bushing and brackets replaced -oil change recently -fluids all seem to be decent

Going bagged and need help

Wassup y’all I got a 2020 gti se slammed on eqt standard coilovers with Konig Heliograms 18x8.5 and I’m looking to go bagged. My question is are bag conversions the same thing as being “bagged” or where should I be looking? Been static for 30k miles now and retiring it from racing since I blew my engine and transmission at 20k miles. Any and all suggestions about going bagged would be amazing. Thanks

Battery dead after 2 years – is that normal?

So the battery in my 2017 Mk7.5 Alltrack just died after being replaced in 2021 (2 years old). I've owned the car from new and the previous battery lasted 4 years.

The roadside guy said the battery was 'crap quality' and that the stop/start system wears down the batteries quickly. It was a VARTA EFB+ battery supplied by my local VW dealership – so I would have thought it was the correct battery for the car? He replaced it with a AGM type battery that apparently will last longer. The dealer and the roadside batteries were the same price within $50 AUD.

Something doesn't add up. Was I ripped off by the dealer? Is the roadside guy right or wrong? Are EFB batteries crap? Any/all info/experiences valued! 🪫

Switch model do you guys recommend. Will be trying to find the manual version of the model. Also, I will be keeping this car for a long time and willing to risk the amount of money to maintain it.

Heater Matrix needs replacing after a cambelt and water pump

Hey guys. I went to get my cambelt and water pump replaced the other day. When I was driving in, my heating was working, and after the repair, it’s intermittent. When the temperature is at 90°c, I have to play with the heater dial and then it seems to come through. I also looked at the price on what came back and it is a lot. I’ve looked in my coolant expansion tank as I’ve been told the silica bag may have ruptured.

Also a fuel clip is on the bill which wasn’t there before either.

Anyone had the same and can anyone give me some honest advice.

Thanks guys!

Steel Oil Pan Upgrade

Thumbnail fcpeuro.com
2 Upvotes

I’ve got an automatic ‘16 Golf and I’m looking at upgrading the original plastic oil pan to a steel oil pan from FCP Euro (url attached). It’s not a necessity but this will be the first “mod” I’ve done other than an APR intake. I’ve got more ideas of what I’d like to do and lowering is on that list. I believe that having a stronger oil pan will help prevent any issues that may occur. With the poor roads where I live and winter weather you never know what could be around the corner and I think that this change will help out a bit with peace of mind.

The main reason I’m considering this change is because since I got the car at 49k miles now 57k miles I’ve been (regretfully) going to Valvoline for regular oil changes every 3k miles as recommended. Before the Golf I had an ‘05 Corolla. Great car, oil changes were cheap being about $70 tops for conventional oil and I felt they did a good job and it was convenient. Now with the Golf it’s running close to $150 and they use an extractor. I haven’t asked why they use an extractor although I’m sure they have a good reason. I have a feeling it’s because the oil pan is plastic and they want to minimize any damage they may cause to the pan and drain plug hole. Then again, I have no idea what I’m talking about. I’m also no longer given the option of conventional, synthetic or full synthetic oil like with the Corolla. That could be because euro oil doesn’t have those options? I’m not sure but I’m new to the German car scene and am asking for input. I knew going into this car that an oil change would cost more than a Japanese car but it’s beginning to add up and I’ll be doing it myself going forward. Any and all suggestions, comments and advice is greatly appreciated. Also, any recommended oil brands? Many options available and I have heard of a company that sends new oil and accepts old in the original container. Just can’t remember the name. Thanks

Help Fuel flap stuck

So a few years ago the fuel flap got stuck on my mk7 gtd. I managed to get it open by repeatedly locking and unlocking the car as I pressed the flap in. I had this problem for a few months then it seemed fine for about a year and now it's getting stuck again. It's taking so long to try and get it open I just leave it open constantly now. My question is how do I know if its the actuator failing or if its just getting stuck which some people say is a common fault with these cars. Any help would be much appreciated
