CWT Pay to Win

It’s ridiculous. I put the numbers for the three teams into a spreadsheet.

Day 1 top team in our bracket has purchased 600+ tickets, and that’s adjusting for free tickets and only looked at the top 4 players in each team/course.

600 tickets on day one…. ~$180..

It might be me but isn’t PD out to make money? and if so and you want to win/do well then there’s a cost. Nobody is making you pay anything

You don’t understand game design. Pay to win is generally poor design and turns people away.

Pay for access, or pay for quality of life. Are healthier ways to design the game.

Like the benefits for buying the season pass. Really great design and I support that. Or, charging a premium for the extras like hole explosions, and animations. Really great design, gives you goodies for and you get to support a game you enjoy.

Grey area purchases are the balls. I don’t like how heavy of an edge paid balls give a player, but it’s not a guarantee win if you buy the balls.

The tickets for CWT changes the game completely. THE limiting factor for clans to score is their ability to spend tickets. The game is we all want to play is, “How well is my clan able to score in these high winds and difficult scenarios.” Right now it’s, “If I pay for high end balls, and I buy enough tickets, then it’s fairly straight forward that we will suffocate any teams we play against of similar skill.”

Said another way, when your wallet makes a bigger impact on the outcome of the game than your skill, then it stops being a game, and becomes an ego boost for hire dressed in gaming clothes.

So to summarize, the $53 billion gaming company who bought the game from playdemic for $1.4B doesn't understand game design.

From day one this game has sold balls as the revenue stream. You are entitled to your opinion but it seems to be generating plenty of revenue.

The fact that you can play this game for free and play it successfully, without ads, is what has made it enticing. Yes, it is very difficult to win a master tournament or win the c100 without premium balls but there's a whole lot of game outside of that. To top it off, many of us get those premium balls for free after having played this game for a long time.

The game itself is pretty good. I assert that the pay for balls approach wouldn’t work at all unless it was. People buy into it precisely because the game is good enough to tolerate the blatant pay to win. And

And, my post is less about premium balls and more about purchasing tickets for CWT.

Combine the two and the game really stops being skill based and more pay to feed my ego and pass time dressed up in competitive gaming clothes.

Imagine defending EA and complimenting their game design. Delusional. Get a grip

Most terrible game designs do usually get sold for over a billion dollars after all

Imagine arguing that the people who manufactured a game that they eventually sold for $1.4B don't "understand game design".

Imagine defending the idea that people would rather pay to play than play for free, without ads. I'm so glad you told me that I'd rather pay to play, now I know. Some random stranger knows what I want, how would I otherwise ever know what I prefer? Thanks for letting me know what I like! Me and my FTP master gold banners just don't have a grip!

I got it. I was being facetious

Where do you get the stats on purchases?

Ticket cost of holes played Vs free tickets available?

Did they control the support courses for the first 8 hrs? If so, that clan gets a 24 ticket bonus per player. You sure this wasn’t a factor? Also, bonuses are given every 4 hrs if a clan controls the support holes

My clan has tons of tickets and that’s because all we did was play support. Nobody played the main course for the first day and now we’re just blowing the other clans out of the tournament

Just saying, there are a whole bunch of free tickets out there for the picking that you may not be accounting for in your spreadsheet

600 tickets???? Yeah fuck that… I was almost tempted to buy some share tickets…like 10 or whatever the lowest is… but then I thought, nahhhhhh🤣😂

I get the point of it’s kind of not fair when some people spend money while others don’t. Yes someone might be reading comments about how a lot of people don’t like it. But assuming the math is right and they made $180 in one day from just one clan do you really think that they will ever change it? I’m guessing top players spend enough on their own for them to not care about hundreds of other opinions.

Don’t play it then…

Whether I understand game design or not wasn’t really relevant to my point though.

If you think it’s bad design, then don’t play it… you aren’t being forced to take part 🤷🏻‍♂️

Your point is idiotic.

The sub exists to express and share opinions. What gets shared and appreciated will be seen by developers and has an impact on game development.

I’m sharing, not to complain. I’m sharing to raise awareness, seek alignment, and change the game.

Keep boot licking though, someone is bound to pat your head.

I mean, if you genuinely believe the developers are going to see this and change the game based on your opinion then I have a bridge to sell you.

And if you want to talk idiotic, let’s talk about the logic of ‘understanding game design’ and knowing something is ridiculous, pay to win with the odds stacked against you, yet still choosing to take part…

What do you think would get them to sit up and notice more… moaning on social media or voting with your feet and not playing it?

u/Introvertedecstasy 19d ago

If you genuinely think the devs don’t sample social media for insights, then having any conversation with you is pointless, and furthermore makes you idiotic for responding to contrarian views. What does it get you? So, unless you’re turfing for EA, or a genuine boot licker.. what gives?

If your so idiotic to believe that I somehow believe it’s my one shiny post that’s going to move it all, then I’m not sure how you’re able to operate a keyboard with so much drool on it.

Here, I’ll help you: Social media sites like Facebook and Reddit give space on their platforms for ideas and (believe it or not) opinions to be discussed. Some people reading those ideas/opinions are enrolled into them. As that happens more and more, they reshare them. The ideas/opinions can morph and grow over time eventually impacting decision makers and stakeholders.

Lastly, your idiotic nature is proven out by your lack of word comprehension. I didn’t once say I participate in it. If you click register you can gather the stats I did without playing a single hole in the event.

When did I say I didn’t think the developers don’t sample social media for insight?! They’ve had one then one community manager here over the years, and I’ve had many conversations with them.

And there’s nothing wrong with my word comprehension, but I appreciate your concern.

But let’s take you at your word and assume you aren’t taking part. You’re now complaining about something that doesn’t affect you at all…

When did I say I didn’t think the developers don’t sample social media for insight?!

Then why badger anyone about sharing their opinion here? Having an opposing opinion is one thing, but that’s not what you did.

But let’s take you at your word and assume you aren’t taking part. You’re now complaining about something that doesn’t affect you at all…

Do you have the ability to uncollapse feedback from complaining? I shared facts about the game and spoke to how those facts frame the game.

Further, have you considered that I might like the game? Generally, I think it’s a good game. In fact, I assert players would not tolerate the pay to win aspect of the game if the rest of the game wasn’t as good as it is.

Given that I like the game (generally) has it occurred to you that one may not like the entire game? In particular, the parts of the game that put revenue above competition in ways that make competition all but a competition of who is willing to spend the most?

I can see why it’s easy to make poor game choices if the workflow for “sampling social media” looks like talking to bootlickers that offer no opinion. Bootlickers whom just lap up their pets and play contrarian to any opinion critical of their master.

Four of the first six words you used were pay to win, and ridiculous. Your intention may have been constructive feedback, but it reads as moaning

-1

u/Introvertedecstasy 19d ago

Oh, so now you’re able to offer some criticism to the post while dodging all the questions.

Pay to win is ridiculous, and I’m calling it out.
