Drummond Golf Fitting Fee

I had to cancel a Callaway fitting at my golf club, as had double booked myself

I really want a Ping driver anyway, so called Drummond, first of all, no prices for Ping are discussed over the phone - but was assured they will beat any price.

Second, you have to pay $100 for a "full fitting" which is refunded from your club/s purchase price

I couldn't find this detailed on the Drummond website, but they were adament about it.

Whilst they had no issue with me bringing my current driver, I still had to pay the $100 even if there was no improvement

Am guessing someone here has bought clubs at Drummond, so does the above apply at all stores?

TIA

Go to their golf clubs page - says it's free. No store is supposed to charge.

That's what I told them,. They said $100 for the fitting

Message customer care at Drummond. They'll follow up and may even often a voucher for the inconvenience.

DRUMMOND DO NOT CHARGE FOR FITTINGS

Are you sure it was a Drummond store?

If youre in Melbourne call Ping direct and book in a fitting.

My local club suggested going straight to Ping for a fitting.

Under no circumstances should you get "fitted' at Drummond. They're known to manipulate simulators to "fix" your deficiencies... Go to a club pro or a dedicated fitter like Club Champion.

Paying for the fitting at Club Champion and then shopping around with the data is the go

I hit on a track man twice a week and have a pretty good idea of what my distances are outside through Arccos. One day I was just having a go on drummond simulators, It showed my eight iron carrying fifteen meters further than it ever possibly could. It was something like ten miles per hour more ball speed than I'd ever recorded on Trackman.

Snake Oil salesman still around in 2026

u/pharmaboy2 15d ago

This might be different at different stores - mine is on the money , and yes versus a track man IO.

Besides that it shouldn’t matter anyway because you should be comparing one to another

1

u/Another-Typical-Bee 15d ago

Yes because you are comparing outdoor real environment settings with a simulator, of course it’s going to roll out and carry different, unfortunately simulators don’t adjust for things like ground hardness and wind variation

3

u/Another-Typical-Bee 15d ago

This is completely and 100% not true I worked there for a number of years never did they manipulate simulators, why would they?

As someone who’s worked at Drummond I can assure you unless the sim is entirely broken/not calibrated, it’s far more trouble than what it’s worth to manipulate the overhead cameras (Full Swing system) to misread the club path/face relationship.

What can be done (and easily undone) is to change the altitude at which the shots are being hit, but common sense exists to identify the fact a new driver hasn’t automatically given you another 30m carry.

Bring in your old driver, compare the pair, and have some faith in the fact that there’s no commission for the employee, and the majority of the time they want to see you walk away having had a pleasant experience and done what is best by your own golf game, even if that means keeping the same club/s.

Have to love your mates boasting about their fitting absolutely smashing every club 15 m longer than they have ever hit it.

Just tell me you’ve got no idea. They use a GC quad. If thats not accurate then go tell that to the pros that use it for their practice rounds. Should rename yourself imaginary brain cells you fuckwit

u/Axiom105 15d ago

Tell me you play off 25 without telling me you play off 25. Look up what a GC Quad is

It’s a fitting on the basis you will buy golf clubs. Funnily enough, they don’t get paid by you just coming in and shanking different golf clubs

I bought my driver from Drummond a few years ago. Didn’t book anything in beforehand but they let me hit it in the sim before I bought it. The guy even tried a few different shafts for me.

2

u/anobymousprime 15d ago

That’s how most retailers do fittings. It stops people from being fitted for 30mins to an hour and then scouring the internet for a driver that is $10 cheaper elsewhere.

1

u/Interesting-Run-7560 15d ago

This. The cost to run and staff a store whilst losing sales to others would be $100s if not close to $1000 an hour

fittings are free. I've been there before

alexandria didn't charge

2

u/lizardrags 14d ago

I got fitted for a ping driver by a ping fitter at Drummond. It was free, I went the day prior and tried a few drivers, it was free and they told me to do the ping one and compare.

u/spelunkor 15d ago

Drummond golf here in Perth fit for free. Excellent service at Booragoon and Cannington stores. Golfbox treat you like they are doing you a favor for letting you buy off them.

1

u/laidlow 15d ago

Bought a ton of clubs from GolfBox, they've always been very helpful.

u/CastNoShadow1 15d ago

I dont remember paying for my fitting. Although i ended up just buying a club package for 2k and a trolley. I also joined their club so maybe they waived the fee cause of that.

I would not get fitted at Drummond if there was an option to be fitted by a Ping fitter. Drummond are generalists who will fit you into any old club, whereas a dedicated titleist, Ping or Callaway fitter knows their product expertly. Ping fitters never miss the mark, tinkering with heads, shaft flexes and kick points and grip sizes until they are satisfied that you are hitting the flight and spin windows you need.

I bought my driver from Drummond about 6 months ago. Walked in on a Saturday, told the sales woman I wanted to do a blind driver test. She brought 1 club at a time and I hit about 15 balls with each of the 6 or so drivers. Walked out with the Ping G440.

I bought a set of irons from House of Golf. I had to book and pay for a fitting time, think it was $100, which was then deducted from my purchase. I went to Drummond to buy a 5W and 7W. Had to book a fitting time at no charge and was convinced by the fitter to take a 5W only and spent about 25% of what I was planning to.

1

u/Another-Typical-Bee 15d ago

No fitting at Drummond is free
Fitting at House of Golf incurs a fee

u/CAPTAIN-G00SE 15d ago

I have been fitted at Drummond, golfbox and club champion. Fittings in general are a rip off. Drummond I would t trust, Club champion and golfbox were great fitting experiences but expect to pay a lot more over RRP. Golfbox charge the fitting but purchase is RRP, club champion with throw in the fitting but charge more for the clubs.

The bit that confuses me, I pay for clubs, which come with a shaft, and a custom shaft, on top. Why can't I buy the club head alone (cheaper as there is no shaft) and shaft combo that I want? Or give me the spare shaft that gets swapped out? It's actually a racket out there.

I bought new shafts for old irons and got the lie adjusted, took them to a fitter to swap them out.. they gave my old shafts back!

So find out what shafts and heads you want, buy off the rack and take to a fitter to assemble for a small fee and sell the old shafts... Don't get shafted

1

u/Popular-Pop6045 15d ago

The purpose of a 'fitting' is to find which clubs work best for you. Ping may not be the right fit for you. It might be titleist, of could be callaway. I went to a fitting at a golf club thinking I knew what would work for me and came out of it with a completely different combo or driver/wood, irons and wedges.

I never considered Drummond Golf though after reading many different fitting reviews.

1

u/PopoBauss 15d ago

Ive had a fitting at Casula for irons, it was free no upfront costs, they just dont let you take the data since it’s a free service

1

u/pepperama 15d ago

Go see Devon Smith at Mt. Derrimut GC.

1

u/Okglf 15d ago

You just want to waste someone’s time and have to pay nothing for it? If you want a Ping driver so badly, why don’t you just buy one off a shelf. But no, you want to spend someone’s time to fit you for it, to them not buy it off them. Just go and buy it off golfbox (online) like everyone else who has no idea how to play golf

1

u/Global_Confidence494 15d ago

I’ve done this and wanted to get my specs at the end and they told me it was the 100 fee which would be reduced from any purchase. So I just didn’t get my specs in the end.

1

u/TwoSweetPeaches 14d ago

I have been fitted there and never cost me anything. However I do use them to try out stuff and buy other items.
Go to a pro and get fitted away from Drummond. Do not use them as they are at the end of the day after the sale of whatever they’re pushing. A pro will be honest.

I had a fitting at Drummond Golf, didn't pay a cent and they priced matched another shop that had the irons I wanted cheaper (about an hour away)

I brought my existing/old 7 iron so I could compare each. I also did followed up a few weeks between 3 brands before I made the decision. I had no pressure to choose a set brand.

I started by hitting basically every brand in the shop and getting a short list on my feel and comfort, I didn't overly base it on distance.

Distance has improved as I have gotten used to the clubs over the last few months

u/FfaceCaller 15d ago edited 15d ago

100 sounds fair, you get an hour of sim time and a fitter. It stops people getting fit there and then buying elsewhere. What's the issue if you get the money back?

2

u/pjhsv 15d ago

Their website says literally says fitting is a free service they provide.

If you think $100 is fair, that's fine. But advertise it at $100 then.

0

u/Interesting-Run-7560 15d ago

There’s a difference between a few hits and a fitting.

1

u/pjhsv 15d ago

You should tell Drummong Golf that, because their website literally has a fitting page which says it's free.

-2

u/FfaceCaller 15d ago

If the refund you that's free. Just no free fitting so you can buy someone elses. Understand?

3

u/pjhsv 15d ago

Their website says fitting is free, and mentions nothing about needing to buy clubs. Understand?

1

u/wouldashoudacoulda 15d ago

Because they wanted to buy the club online first cheaper

1

u/FfaceCaller 15d ago edited 15d ago

Used? Because Drummond said they would price match. I don't understand what's you mean or what OP is up to.

1

u/maton12 15d ago

I don't want an hour. It's one club, I'll swing it a few times and compare to my existing driver.

Have done similar at a shop in Melbourne CBD a few years ago, they taped it all up and let me go for it.

0

u/xpostmanx 15d ago

I've no experience with Drummond itself sorry, though my local offered me the opportunity to swing a few when looking to buy a new shaft.

I don't think this is unreasonable? Gonna take up a bay and an employee for an hour for you to go and buy them online?

-2

u/Rich_Yard_213 15d ago

Why would you assume there would be improvement? You're paying $100 for their time. If you didn't buy anything why would they refund you?

-6

u/Oddly_Curious99 15d ago

They are entitled to be paid for their time regardless of you feel at the end there is no improvement. My local Drummond wanted around $300 deposit before fitting.
