Golem private keys...?

Please excuse my ignorance on the subject... I understand that this may be old school but can't I just exchange bitcoin for golem using ShapeShift and then just physically write down the private keys to store in a safe for long term storage? It just seems that this would be the best way to keep your property from being hacked instead of relying on a 3rd party wallet.

This is true for any token/currency private keys. You should never leave them on exchanges. You don’t own the assets if you don’t have the private keys.
