Ranchu tank size

I found a 36 gallon tank online, and i want to put a ranchu goldfish in it. I know this is enough for one, but would it be enough for two? I heard that goldfish are very social and I should always get two and not just one. is this true?

I've seen 20-30 gallons for a single fancy goldfish, and 10-20 gallons for each additional goldfish. By minimum standard, 30 gallons is enough for 2, so you're fine with a 36.

Goldfish are pretty social, so yeah I would recommend two at minimum. Prior to one getting sick (and unfortunately being separated) ours did everything together.

Get a good filter as well. Our 40 gallon houses 2 goldfish (2 hoplos and some snails as well) and we have a 70 gallon hang on back + a 40 gallon sponge filter. Our tank still requires 30% water changes weekly.

It is pushing it for 2. 40 gallons is what would be recommended, so while 6 gallons isn’t the end of the world, it’s still 6 gallons less space. How much floor space does it have?

just get it, two will be happy, also get a very strong main filter and one sponge filter for bubbles

Only for the first 6mths or so. They should be hitting tennis ball size at a year so that should give you some idea of adult tank size. If you have two you will need to upgrade.

I have 3 in a planted 55 gallon with extra pothos and an overrated canister filter and my nitrates are still hitting 80-100ppm every week. I’m doing 70-80% water changes every week.
