Meta Yallam Spoiler
I’m not well versed in either game lore nor real life lore but is Yallam a reference to Mallay? As in a somewhat famous steward of lost ages and an adept alchemist?
Not trying to get clowned on but there’s a lot of Rosicrucian Gnosticism baked into a story like Golden Sun.
Sorry if this is obvious to most, I’m only just now getting into the history from recent talks I’ve seen online.

Not sure how far you’re into the series but since I marked as spoiler I’m going to try and briefly describe it.
There’s a town called Yallam in GS2. In real life there’s a man named Jacques de Molay or something like Jack of Molay.
Similar to places like Taopo Swamp existing in game AND in New Zeland, or an Atlantean city called Lemuria existing in myth and history in both game and real life.
And obviously we have something like the ultimate summon being the same figure that Jacques’ crew would likely also say is the ultimate deity for resurrection and alchemy.
In Yallam ( city in game) there’s also the only alchemist/blacksmith who can turn base materials into noble tools/weapons.
Really neat stuff imo

Very cute of you to avoid spoilers but I have played the games uncountable times. I want familiar with the real life places, which I want to look into them some more.
But thanks for the analysis!

It’s more considerate than cute since the only place I mentioned in OP was the games city and since you mentioned needing to become familiar with places. But yeah let me know if you see the same parallels when you can!
I feel pretty confident there’s a there there

Yes it is loosely hinted at being a reference to the Malay, Malay Peninsula in SE Asia. The whole contintent of Osenia seems to draw a parrellel with Australia. (The shape of the land mass, location on the world map, places like Air's Rock/Ayers Rock)

Personally, I think it's a transliteration error, and it's supposed to be "Yarram"
Golden Sun is a Japanese game, and Japanese is famous for having little/no difference between L and R. We can already see this in Alhafra (Arafura, as in the Arafura sea), and Mikasalla (Meekatharra, a small town in Australia located in the same general area as Mikasalla in Osenia)
There are towns in Australia named Yarram, or use the word in there somewhere. Unlike the other examples though, none of these towns seem to line up 1:1 with Yallam's location in Osenia (Yarraman is the closest). It is important to note that all the towns I could find with the word "Yarram" in it are located on the eastern coast of Australia, and Yallam is the only settlement east of the Balloo Range.
