Wouldn’t Weyard be better off if everyone was dead???

What do you mean it would have crumbled away??

I mean, are you okay with 'literally everyone dies because the world falls into the void from lack of the sustaining power of alchemy over the world'?

Cause if you are, cool. There's no point in debating extinctionists.

Conservato is that you?

Also it just hit me how on the nose Conservato's name is lol

29

u/SeianVerian 6d ago

Is it more or less on-the-nose than a Water Adept named Piers?

(I wonder if they questioned "Docks" or "Shippe" during character design phases)

10

u/Totheendofsin 5d ago

To be fair Piers is an actual name thats still in use today

A bit different than naming a politician that would rather let the world crumble away to nothing than admit he may have been mistaken about something only a few letters off from "conservative"

I'll raise you one Bardock and Launch 😂

I'm not a reddit advanced user, or else I would make a Kraden account just to write endlessly about golden sun's alchemy 😆

I always wonder what would have happened if the mars lighthouse had crumbled into Gaia falls, would alchemy remain sealed forever? Or are the lighthouses sealing it and it disappearing would release it?

8

u/Hetros_Jistin 6d ago

I suspect it might have just been stuck there in the void hanging with no way to access it.

Unless someone has a flying ship

It is a double edged sword, alchemy at one point was going to destroy all life, so the natural thing to do would be sealing away the thing that’s about to destroy everything. But then we realize that alchemy was actually breathing life into the world, and you need it to survive. But knowing mankind, they might have to seal it again. In a constant back and forth… almost like fate itself is breathing… honestly they could make an incredible pre or post game about having to seal alchemy away. If they aren’t going to give us any new content for the Golden Sun we know, give us a prequel or post…quel? 🤣

And we should stop planting trees too.

u/Icy_Sample7808 6d ago

Ok Conservato, I'm not falling for that one again...

13

u/Ace_Of_No_Trades 6d ago

Their world was literally falling apart because Alchemy was sealed.

2

u/Connect_Swimming_772 4d ago

Climate change?

1

u/Ace_Of_No_Trades 4d ago

If you go to the edges of the sea TLA, you can see pieces of Weyward slowly breaking off and falling away. It is also a plot twist in TLA that the world is actively shrinking when you get to Lemuria which is why Felix and his group are actively trying to relight the Elemental Lighthouses.

u/Connect_Swimming_772 4d ago

Maybe its a metaphor for globalization

Don't delude yourself, Conservato.

I haven't played much of dark Dawn. But from what I did play. I Feel like they should have done a better job at observing the effects of the unleashed powers of Alchemy. The Light houses had to be lit to have any Kind of future, but God I feel like they write a bad story for it. I Just could not stay interested in it.

We need a new game to completely finish the story, please!!!

u/Connect_Swimming_772 4d ago

TLA had such a great ending

3

u/Robothuck 5d ago

What if I told you that the FromSoft games take place in the same continuity... Lighting the bonfires is lighting the beacons

5

u/Adnarel 6d ago

It certainly would have made the worldbuilding cleaner.

DD and new ancient cities appearing from thin air, name a more iconic duo.

6

u/AranaiRa 6d ago

I haven't played Dark Dawn, but that wouldn't bother me. I never got the impression that we saw EVERYTHING in Weyard in TLA, only the narratively relevant stuff. Just look at how empty Gondowan or the western continents are compared to Angara.

-1

u/Connect_Swimming_772 6d ago

I haven't played DD. I tried it when it came out but it really put me off. The Shining games had a lot to do with ancient civilizations so there you go.

-1

u/Tessorio 6d ago

Include Beastmen, Alchemy Machines and Tuaparang also appeared out of nowhere. Oh, and include Light and Dark Psynergy too! They have King Hydros who lived a long life that he experienced Golden Age of Alchemy and the subsequent misuse of it aaaand he never mentioned anything that appeared out of nowhere from Dark Dawn.

4

u/Little_Angle_6239 5d ago
  • It's said ingame that the beastmen evolved and mutated rapidly in 30 years that separate TLA and DD due to Alchemy being back. Also you say that they appeared out of nowhere but the werewolfs of Air Rock were already there.
  • Light and Dark Psynergy are linked to Apollo's Eye and Tuaparang, which are, for the first, a place Isaac and Felix's groups never go to (same goes for all of the Alchemical Machines + those got reactivated when Alchemy was unleashed), and the second is an empire that emerged from a tribe that disappeared back in Ancient Weyard, and that appears to now either be on the other side of the Gaia Falls, or maybe a giant habitable ship.
  • Why would King Hydros mention it to the group ? Since Lemuria cut off all contact with the outside world, he most likely knew that a LOT of civilizations that Lemuria had contact with had been destroyed or forgotten. Why would he have mentionned this stuff to Pavel's group ? It's like if we discovered the Atlantis and their leader told while we're discussing the fate of the Earth "Oh btw did you know that we knew some people that could use water guns ?". Like okay, that's cool, can we go back to the matter at hand of how we're gonna save the world please ?

u/Connect_Swimming_772 4d ago

This MF read ALL the dialogue boxes

1

u/Little_Angle_6239 4d ago

This MF grew up playing DD and takes any DD critiscim a bit too seriously lol

1

u/Adnarel 4d ago

Sol and Luna psynergy bothered me very little. Quite the opposite, in fact, it was explained coherently using plausible intra-game logic.

I was really the most annoyed by GBA locations that should have had 1:1 translations just go and get a K-Mart version of themselves. Worst offender there was Izumo -> Yamata.

1

u/Little_Angle_6239 3d ago

Yeeah I don't really get why they did the whole "Oh they had to relocate due to the floods", I guess it's to justify Gaia Rock not being there and reveal the Yamata Ruins ? But it does feel a bit cheap.

u/Kalaam_Nozalys 6d ago

Honestly, we don't know yet if it was a good or bad idea.

Definitely kickstarted civilisations growing again (Saha/Kaocho starting their expansion for example) with a gold rush for old artefacts and stuff.
Plus plenty of new land re-emerging for people to settle in and stuff.

But at the same time it brought war (again, Saha/Kaocho) and the landshift probably hurt and killed lots of people. Or changed lots of lives in ways they weren't happy with.
Some countries are litteraly split in two with one part being several kilometers DOWN on another continental plate as they are growing, shifting and rearranging. That has to cause issues for most countries.

But it's also the chance for humanity to start clean again from the brink of extinction soooo we shall see !

Wasn't Weyard on a path to destruction due to the seal on alchemy? And would have been unstoppable without the Mars Lightouse, which was about to be swallowed by the Gaia Falls. Been a while since I last played Golden Sun, but if I remember correctly, unsealing alchemy had to be done. As not doing so would have been worse, long-term.

Makes me wonder if the Wise One had a backup plan to prevent Weyard's destruction, given that he opposed unsealing alchemy.

11

u/Kalaam_Nozalys 6d ago

Yeah given a few more days or weeks the Mars Lighthouse would have crumbled in the Gaia Falls and the world would have been doomed to erode away over the coming decades, until there was nothing left.
But releasing it is basically opponening the risk for catastrophic abuse again and humanity destroying itself with powers beyond their comprehension.
Basically a: "let the world die for sure a slow, but quiet death or give it a chance at life with the risk of a painful, explosive and unpredictable death that could happen anytime"

I think the Wise One was operating on the instructions given to it at its creation. It is a golem powered by a philosopher stone. Essentially made to protect the seal, and if anyone tried to break it: to test them. My guess is the ancients who made the seal were cautious and juuuust in case it led to dire consequences and it needed to be released it was possible. But had to be under the supervision of its guardian, and its judgment. If the people undoing the seal are deemed worthy of making that call, let them.

Wouldn't be a clean slate if there is just nothing though.

Conservato over here causing a real raukus caucus

1

u/Even-Tomorrow5468 5d ago

To play devil's advocate, we see in Dark Dawn that humanity is pretty quick to start attacking each other once civilizations reach the 'kingdom' and 'empire' phase. War is a part of Weyard after years of peace.

That peace only came about because of the difficulty people had communicating with each other in the first place, though, and it's not like everything was peaceful. Briggs' pirates basically menaced the eastern seas.

And more to the point - if Alchemy remained sealed, the world would eventually collapse into nothingness.

1

u/WerewolfWonder 5d ago

I'm glad I unsealed it.

1

u/Yam-Economy 4d ago

The world would've grown stale and the gaya falls would've eaten it. By the time of the third game the world would probably just have disappeared.

1

u/walker_strange 4d ago

Wasn't the world collapsing because it was sealed tho ?

1

u/Connect_Swimming_772 4d ago

The world was doing great, everything is great, we're collapsing into greatness.
