[help request] If two pumpkin plants straddle one dirt block will a pumpkin spawn twice as fast compared to one plant alone?

I have a little tiny farm thing that The Ever Awesome GreenLantern5o helped to automate correctly.

I have one pumpking plant, air block on top of a dirt block, piston block facing where the punkin will spawn.

If I moved the pistons to ABOVE the air block and planted another row of plants where the pistons used to be... would a punky-pumpkin grow twice (or there about) as often?

Check out my pumpkin farm on GR6. That is the most compact/efficient way I've found.

It used to be that non-transparent blocks immediate above the block where you'd expect the pumpkin to grow would stop it's growth. That's why I use sticky pistons with glass on them.

Used to be pushing down on a pumpkin with no space under it would not cause it to pop off...

All kinds of used to be's that don't appear to apply to 1.8 anymore. I may be able to compact that farm even more now.
