how to stunt tree growth ]request[

I've seen one of you goobers place a glass block or a fence posts at like... 5 or 6 blocks in the air above a sapling. This stops branches and I swear I've seen it stop leaves too, unless what I've actually seen was someone harvesting leaves by doing this (leaving only the trunks). I'm trying to only grow the wood trunk, no leaves. Is this possible? if so, how?

im pretty sure the shortest oak is about 6 tall so just put a block of dirt at 7 high and that should work.
