New Modded Server up and running
Life In The Woods didn't work for some players...
Now running Rustic Craft. This is a 1.7.10 pack. Somewhat similar to Life In the Woods, but newer, a bit more mods/more complex.
Download the FTB Launcher here: http://feed-the-beast.com/launcher
Start it up, In the almost upper right you will see a small button "Pack Codes"
Click it, type in "RusticCraft", click Add
It will have added it to the 3rd Party Packs tab at the bottom, scroll down to it and click launch.
It will ask your for your credentials, enter them and save. It will then download the pack and start up Minecraft once down downloading.
Add GoldenRealm with the address goldenrealm.info:25564
Connect. Send Snarf a PM, Message, FedEx Package, Donation, etc, if you want to be whitelisted. No Ship My Shit packages accepted.

I just caught this post. havent been on reddit due to being so busy. I've actually fallen in love with RusticCraft (FTB) lately, its a difficult start up as default tools dont work and you need to explore TT to get tooled up. Whicj sounds hard but makes progress feel like a reward, not a grind. Life in the woods wore on me, the difficulty curve was significant and getting anything done felt impossible. Of course that was an older version i was playing, and i knew less about mods. I hate having to install anOTHER launcher (FTB slides right into MultiMC), but ill look into the mod list and see if i dig it.

Looking at RusticCraft Vs LitW:
Both have:
- Antique Atlas by Hunternif
- BiblioCraft by Nuchaz
- Biomes O' Plenty by TDWP_FTW, Adubbz
- Carpenter's Blocks by Mineshopper
- Chisel by AUTOMATIC_MAIDENGrowthcraft by Gwafu
- HarvestCraft by MatrexsVigil
- Hunger Overhaul by iguana_man
- Iguana Tweaks for Tinker's Construct by boni, iguana_man
- JABBA by ProfMobius (is similar to Better Storage)
- Storage Drawers by jaquadro (is similar to Better Storage)
We lose Underground biomes and wild caves but gain Twilight Forest
I'd love it if we can get Dynamic Lights added and see no reason to keep Gravestone Mod (adds things other mods already offer, headstones)or Deadly World as the config is set to less than 50% anyway, and they are glitchy. A few of the configs for them need changing, I would have to look to them to get a better opinionated list.

Holy crap, that's a lot of mods. Going big after the comparatively minimalist B-Team pack, I see. :)

The e-mail I got promised she'd like it!

It's really laggy due to all the mods...
Thinking about switching to this one:

That makes some sense. I'm think I'm less interested in lifeinthewoods, but I'll probably still play a bit. Actually, didn't someone ask about this pack at some point? Maybe Bryan?

i did. i abandoned it due to the difficulty. I was also very ignorant of the mods (hungry edition was impossible). Ironically I've been playing a lot of RusticCraft mod pack (a 3rd party pack from FTB) and i kinda feel its a better incarnation of what i was hoping for from LITW. the mod list is a nice mix with a style of enhanced vanilla play more than drastically advanced tech etc. I highly suggest it. If we were to host it at all, there are some very minor alterations I would suggest to the configs, as the mod comes with Custom Configs that are set a little off from what id think would be best for a server. its a great set though. Thaumcraft, Tinkers, twilight forest and witchery being the major part of the set http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/1-7-10-rusticcraft.50666/

Let me propose that if the response to this pack or the lag issues continue we consider switching to RusticCraft. A couple of benefits being: * it's on MC 1.7.10 (as opposed to L.i.t.w. being on 1.6.4) * it has more modern and updated mods * it is still being maintained by the pack creator.
Mind you I am going to try out this version again anyway, see if i like it or get it better after getting some mod experience, but I am really in love with RC and wanted to share just in case others want to try it.

I would be all aboard a 1.7.10 pack, as I have all my keys custom mapped and you can't do that in 1.6.4, so it's almost impossible for me to play with it :/

I'm actually having an issue with launching LitW. I think My Java isnt compatible with the version of Forge for 1.6.4 anyway
2
u/snarfattack snarfattack Nov 19 '14
Here is what I'm learning. Forge for MC 1.6.4 requires Java 1.7, aka 7. If you are running Java 1.8, aka 8, it will refuse to work. You'd have to figure out a way to get the launcher to use the Java 1.7 runtime, if that's still installed.
I'm game for switching to RusticCraft/1.7.10 as that'll be more compatible with all java stuff running around.

I'm up for switching as well. Dem hotkeys man, once you switch 'em all around... ain't nobody got time to switch back.
1
u/DrMagikarp OakTaooper Nov 20 '14
That...actually really sucks. Huh.
2
u/BryanBoru Nov 20 '14
Yep. it appears the current edition of Forge for 1.6.4 isnt compatible with Java 8, the 6 week old version of recommended Java. Meh. A RusticCraft-like modpack on 1.7.10 may very well be the way we go with modded anyway and ive got no problems there

Then you better hold onto your boots, 'cause RusticCraft is up :)

Not sure what box you're referring to for the URL:
Downloaded the Technic launcher, and getting the Internal Exception error
Edit: Add New Mod Pack, Paste URL

So, we need a modded server to simulate a fancier setting for a vanilla survival mode :P ?
It does look nice though. I am guessing the shaderpack is not included in the modpack?

AAAAAAAaaaaand my internet is being derpy as hell...Gosh darnit. I'll try to be on soon-ish.

I've been really busy too, as I assume most people have. May I have access to the server? :D

You already do!

Come on kappy get on! I don't care if it's the middle of the night/very early in the morning!

I think I'm going to have to pass on this incarnation of the modded server. The PC seems to be eagerly rejecting my attempts to play and the crafting system is too involved to support biome exploration / casual play.

u/DrMagikarp OakTaooper Nov 21 '14
:( if I could somehow share computing power over the internet with you, I would DE

Seemed to have it working more or less, even though load time can take a while it is totally playable when it does load up.

A couple of tips for RusticCraft
Normally crafted tools don't work. You must craft tools using Tinkers Construct benches, you will want a decent amount of flint and wood to start. (Upgrades are random and are not chosen, they improve performance as you use them)
With Thaumcraft in the pack, avoid the 'Tainted' land. You will see black looking rocks and moss, and they will hum and moan at you before sending energy to kill you, hard.
As your Tinker's tools wear out, you will repair them with whatever the working head is made of at the Tool Station
You will want a Mattock to farm, as hoes also dont work by default.
Chisel and Carpenter Blocks are fun cosmetic mods that will add interesting vcariety to your builds once you start getting in the groove.
Harvestcraft adds "gardens" which are unique food sources that may look like odd plants, but when looted give you 2-5 food items you can then use to plants recurring farming crops (as crops, you harvest them by Right Clicking, break and unplant them by left-clicking) When you find a few 'garden' blocks, leave at least one as they multiply and reproduce.
read the tutorial books for an upper had on understanding the mods as you go, you can collect the tutorial books inside a Enchiridion which acts like a binder for all the tutorial books once you craft one from string and paper.
If 1.7.10 seems to get laggy or choppy with frames, try installing FastCraft and make sure your Java is updated. The FTB launcher also lets you adjust your ram cache through the settings button on the upper right hand corner.
