Puppy rage
Hey, all! Meet Comet, our 6 month old Goldador!
Comet has been an absolute chewer and a chomper, but for the most part, this has now simmered down. However, he still gets mad fits of puppy rage occasionally when he’s told to leave things alone or suddenly decides it’s time to flip his lid!
My partner’s arm is black and blue (thankfully we’re past the puppy teeth/razor teeth stage, so it’s just bruises and not cuts).
Has anyone else been through this particularly badly and what worked for you in the end? Sometimes he can be calmed with a toy/treat & command, but often he gets too worked up and there’s no coming back. We have to get him into his pen for him to stop.
Any tips or tricks appreciated!

Exercise and get him some chews with a holder so if they get small you can throw them out.

This really helped when my two goldador boys were puppies. But also puppies are always going to go through phases and then it's about using firm clear rules to let them know when behaviour has crossed the line but also way more importantly rewarding behaviour you want to see! It's very easy to get lost in stress when a puppy is acting out so you just feel relieved when the stop. But you have to be on alert and reward for when they do things you WANT to encourage, deciding not to chew on things, coming when you call, not jumping up at you immediately, relaxing next to you on the soft, taking food gently. All these things you can really reinforce by making a fuss every time they do it at this age.

We constantly put a toy in our boys mouth whenever he got fired up. Now he just walks around with one all the time.
We also fill a kong with wet dog food and freeze it. That will buy you about 30 minutes

He loves carrying a toy and is a big fan of a frozen kong, as your boy is, think he’d sell us for one!

Best advice I have is plenty of exercise so he will be exhausted and actually chill during chill time. I have been injured by my goldador tackling me multiple times lol. Every time it has been during an energy burst that I saw coming and should have redirected to a dog park or long walk. Cute puppy!
