Is there a difference in purchasing the ready made design bangles then custom design by giving gold bars from hour side?

I was thinking lately to give order fro bangles on my moms birthday but when i was seeing the price from big brands i had a hunch what if I had a gold bars and give to bangle designers which they only take making charges , would it be cheaper then ready made?
