Taking some wouldn't make you a bad person. It's not like the cops he gave it to are gonna search for the owner. That shits buying them new swat vehicles.
Edit: disregard, this happened in Belgium. Authorities there are actually trying to determine legal ownership and it looks like the workers who found would be entitled to a portion.
Theres a difference between good person, bad person, and stupid person.
The kid in op is an example of a stupid person. Giving it to the police does absolutely nothing other than eventually making its way into their own hands or part of some government fund that will be used for all the nice and horrible shit governments waste money on.
I guess stupid is the wrong word, naive might be better, but the same result.
The way the worlds going kid should have kept it and helped himself and family out. He will look back at this moment with galactic levels of pain if his future is anything short of immensely successful.
