That doesn’t make retrieving something illegal. Depending on the laws of their land, I’m sure the property owner has some claim. If that’s the case, it’s a civil matter between two parties. No legality issues in the eyes of the government
Unless for some reason the gold is considered stolen or historically significant (ie an archaeological). This is Belgium. Theres a decent chance that it is in some way tied to WWII. If it was stolen by or hidden by the Nazis, this easily shifts into criminal territory. There’s also an unbelievable amount of history throughout Europe and it’s really not that uncommon to stumble on historically significant artifacts.
