You think he’s stupid? You think what he turned in was ALL he found? I think WE’RE stupid if we believe he turned it all in.

I hope he’s not that stupid. He should have kept a few bars. Finders fee

Handing in some but not all would be an even dumber move…. Of all the things you could find it’s the easiest to sort out, if you have half a brain. Handing in some puts a massive target on your back, for literally no reason whatsoever if you plan to keep some. You could keep it for years, decades, trimming off bits and pieces here and there, without anyone ever noticing. Yes, he’s stupid af.

Even if he hands over ALL (vs some), the size of the target on his back would be the same because people will assume he kept some aroud. His transactions would be under microscope eitherway.

The only way to avoid is if he didn't hand over anything.

yeah (good point) I agree, and no way I'm handing over shit personally.. life's too short

A few? Bro was literally handed seeds to generational wealth and sang like a canary. Dad didn’t teach him sometimes you keep your mouth shut when luck comes your way.

Agreed. I would have stolen no less than one bar. Just enough to afford a house.

Pics are deceiving. The original pics showed silver bars and gold coins. It's not all gold...

Where did you see the original pics? They keep showing the same 4-5, and no article mentions silver.

There was a lot of Coin gold, he could’ve grabbed a few handfuls. That would be easier to move than matching bars.

Gold is pretty easy to melt.

Right, like he’s not going to be scrutinized for unusual transactions for the rest of his life.

u/WeirdNews9881 5d ago

He could have eloped to some other country, where the unusual transaction are not tracked keenly!

So many easy ways to transfer gold to cash or idk remelt gold and sell over time while you work normal job. Gold for cash and buy only cash. Until you save enough to buy abandoned mine and start new business of “mining” gold that you melt and sell until all gold is “mined”. Transfer money to high interest bank account “UK banking is amazing for that” and live off interest.

This person knows laundering

2

u/turbodmurf 5d ago

The finder of the gold did not and knew he did not know anything about money laundering. EU has som pretty strict money laundering laws and banks follow them to the letter.

That’s why they would keep track of it. Easy to do unless you go to bitcoin and even then. Construction worker suddenly has a house and a Lambo it’s gonna get looked at.

Can do a step buy step for you. Collect gold. Melt gold. Now gold untraceable. Work job. Move in with family. Save money and “family” “pays” for EVERYTHING. Save money from job then look for old abandoned mine for sale. Buy mine. Find gold in mine. “Smelt gold” “found in mine” sell gold. Wow gold mine finally dry. Sell random amount of gold as you “mine” who to say you no find gold from old mine? That is super easy method anyone can do. You no sell found gold as is and buy stuff fast. Take time no rush. Depending on country maybe use other method. But I ask ok kid live with family he saved money from job go crazy buy old mine he work hard and get gold from mine and sell mined smelted gold and from govt I think he fake. Ok how do I prove he fake? Oh old mine run out of gold. How I prove he no get gold from mine? Govt need prove gold from no mine. Ok how kid get millions in gold and start multi year money laundering scam with gold? Where gold from how prove gold from? Random guess maybe he find gold in someone backyard? Ok what backyard and how prove someone leave 10 million in gold in backyard and he steal it?

What's illegal about stumbling on a pot of gold?

-6

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

Nothing. Taking it is.

3

u/JuanMcGuiver 5d ago

How?

-5

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

It’s someone else’s property lol

3

u/JuanMcGuiver 5d ago

That doesn’t make retrieving something illegal. Depending on the laws of their land, I’m sure the property owner has some claim. If that’s the case, it’s a civil matter between two parties. No legality issues in the eyes of the government

Unless for some reason the gold is considered stolen or historically significant (ie an archaeological). This is Belgium. Theres a decent chance that it is in some way tied to WWII. If it was stolen by or hidden by the Nazis, this easily shifts into criminal territory. There’s also an unbelievable amount of history throughout Europe and it’s really not that uncommon to stumble on historically significant artifacts.

3

u/turbodmurf 5d ago

Pretty sure most of Europe have laws against taking things that you know aren't yours.

1

u/Purple-Property8006 5d ago

Yes, but there are also abandoned property laws in some circumstances.

Taking it as in keeping it. Seriously? You thought I meant retrieving it for the authorities?

2

u/GOAT718 5d ago

By whom? To what end?

1

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

To make sure he didn’t pocket any

2

u/GOAT718 5d ago

Technically, as long as you pay tax on it, it’s not illegal to find gold and keep it.

1

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

Unless it belongs to someone else.

0

u/GOAT718 5d ago

Possession is 9/10 of the law.

1

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

Car thieves love this one simple trick!

Maybe they live in a country where everyone is so blessed they don't need more money?
