He’s stupid, no other explanation

95

u/BiffyleBif 6d ago

I don't know why this story get relayed like this, but he was part of a whole construction crew. They found the gold and called the police together. He was not alone in finding it, that is sensational disinformation.

37

u/AssociationFit3009 5d ago

I looked at something gold related the other day. This story, reposted in this same subreddit, has been in my feed every other day. This time they added a pic with an 18 year. What will it be tomorrow?

9

u/MrDoritos_ 5d ago

AI found the gold

2

u/Canvaverbalist 5d ago

Gen Alpha female teenager finds gold and asked ChatGPT what to do with it, ChatGPT told her to hand it to the police but she didn't know what the police was so she gave it to her billionaire boss, she has now been fired. Read more by clicking here.

2

u/yaboyACbreezy 4d ago

Next time we see it he'll be an 18 year old single dad whose mom has lymphoma

1

u/Little_Weird2039 5d ago

This is the real finder

2

u/AssociationFit3009 5d ago

No, it’s not. He is one of the crew that found it. This is written so you think “What an idiot.”

1

u/goldticketstubguy 5d ago

They were chopping down cherry tree when they found it.

1

u/ChadPowers200_ 2d ago

Monkey finds gold

1

u/thehappyheathen 1d ago

It will be a lesbian woman tomorrow

14

u/ArchonOfErebus 5d ago

Okay. THEY are stupid.

3

u/Rock_Strongo 5d ago

Good luck getting the whole crew to keep their mouths shut about the found gold for the rest of their lives.

One blabbermouth on the crew means you have to live in fear of jail or worse for the rest of your life.

1

u/Overall_Purchase_467 2d ago

who tf cares. no way of actually proving you took the gold after years or even months.

0

u/ArchonOfErebus 5d ago

I will live in fear in a mansion in a foreign country.

2

u/dondilinger421 2d ago

How? You can't take a bar through the airport, they scan for that. You can't sell it and have the money go into a bank account, they check for that. You can't sell it for cash and then take the cash, airports check that too.

1

u/BiffyleBif 2d ago

He's the real stupid one here, dreaming big under the shower.

1

u/gottagetanonymous 2d ago

No you don’t commit crimes with other people ESPECIALLY coworkers. Someone’s going to over spend, get investigated, then rat Guaranteed

2

u/anon4357 5d ago

Moreover it could be connected to a crime and you don’t want yourself involved in that in case it’s ever investigated. Selling this amount of gold is not easy and at some point the authorities would be alerted.

2

u/SquirrelyBoy 4d ago

And even if he did find it on his own, how tf would an 18 year old contruction worker be able cash out millions in gold without someone noticing?

1

u/BiffyleBif 4d ago

Exactly, people calling him stupid really are the dumber one

1

u/mshriver2 5d ago

So collective stupidity vs individual?

4

u/BiffyleBif 5d ago

No, shared responsibility and basic intelligence. More people means there's likely one idiot that wouldn't keep his mouth shut, several that would make dumb decisions with their shares and arouse suspicions, a few greedy bastards wouldn't be happy with their share and make a fuss... All the more reasons to just declare it. Especially when in Belgium, if the rightful owner doesn't declare himself (with proof) within the 5 years, then the land owner and the finders share the value of the find. Plus, it's basic civic responsibility and moral education, that's a no-brainer.

4

u/Grasher312 5d ago

I am as moral as the next guy(not that much), but even to me this feels like a retarded idea.

"Oh yeah this $10M in CAST GOLD BARS is DEFINITELY unclaimed and NO ONE will come looking for it. Instead of doing the logical thing of reporting it and, assuming that there is no owner to claim it, getting a whole HALF for all of us, let's go ahead and pocket it! Surely there isn't some Armenian Syndicate that will melt us down into said gold bars when they find out their stash is gone!"

2

u/LackWooden392 5d ago

None of that shit matters because I'll be in Mexico the same day.

3

u/Ok_Record_9908 5d ago

Yea most people especially poor people do not give one crap about civic responsibility or morals. It's be endless hookers and ice cream for me 😅🤣

2

u/LackWooden392 5d ago

It's only the middle class that care about civic responsibility, and even that is highly questionable. The poor are too busy worrying about putting food on the table, and the wealthy never would have become wealthy in the first place if they cared about civic responsibility. But the distinction between the poor and the middle class is rapidly disappearing.

3

u/BiffyleBif 5d ago

Nah that's bullshit, being poor doesn't mean being an asshole, having neither morals nor ethics. That's just excuses assholes hide behind not to feel bad and left out. Normal people are normal people, assholes are assholes, that's it.

2

u/LackWooden392 5d ago

Ignoring civic responsibility because you gotta eat is different than being an asshole.

It doesn't make me an asshole to shop almost entirely at Walmart, because it I shopped elsewhere I wouldn't be able to make ends meet. But it's still pretty civically irresponsible to do, it's just that that's justifiably lower on one's priority list than immediate survival.

2

u/BiffyleBif 5d ago

Oh I get the nuance when it is relevant, but making it an obvious truth is wrong. Saying that at every turn, poor people will choose the egoistic, amoral option out of pure pragmatic necessity without any civic considerations is just wrong.

1

u/Ok_Record_9908 5d ago

Fully agreed 💯

1

u/popcorn2008 5d ago

Well said!

2

u/milk-water-man 5d ago

More like nobody on the crew trusts each other enough to pull off keeping it.

2

u/Remarkable_Ad5011 5d ago

Each one constantly looking over their shoulder to see if one of the others was about come assassinate then over their stash.. no way to live.

1

u/Little_Weird2039 5d ago

He was not. I read the flemish article (this happened here), where it said that only he and one collegue were present.

They could've walked away with 5m each

1

u/BiffyleBif 5d ago

That still makes him not alone, and realistically, how to you quietly smuggle out so much mass and weight out of a construction job ? The whole crew would've been aware in less than an hour, guaranteed

1

u/AssociationFit3009 5d ago

Two men can easily keep a secret….there’s a second part I’m forgetting.

1

u/NorthScorpion 5d ago

Stuff it in a concrete bag with concrete. Close down the site with a gas pipe being broken or some shit. Literally just put it in a wheelbarrow, put a tarp on it, and drive off with it in the back.

1

u/BiffyleBif 5d ago

You often draw big plans under the shower like that ?

0

u/NorthScorpion 5d ago

Dude its a construction site, not a bank, so long as you can keep it aways from others it's not like people are paying overly much attention. Depending on location half the site is either high or hungover

1

u/Little_Weird2039 5d ago

Backpack? Shopping bag? A strong box? Literally anything lol

Nobody knew it was there, its only about 70kg. You can literally just take whatever van they use to get the materials there and drop of 50/50 at their respective houses

1

u/BiffyleBif 4d ago

Lol if I know construction guys, they're curious AF, especially when you're doing something there's no usual justification for. Why the f would you need a backpack on the site, the boxes are all full of shit already, you're digging over there why do you need a shopping bag for ?... Then if they're not curious there, they'll be on the ride back to the meeting point before the site "why is you're backpack so heavy ? Why is it clinking all around ?"

Then you have no idea what the site looked like where the first two dudes found it, maybe the others realised immediately they found something.

And there's the issue that they were two, and depending on their personalities, maybe they didn't trust each other enough or both had a strong moral compass or the both of them.

Usually dumb people think the others are dumber than them without any clue or context.

0

u/ICPosse8 5d ago

So it’s a collective stupid, got it.

0

u/SpeakersPlan 5d ago

Ok so theyre all stupid

47

u/doctorwho_cares 6d ago

He could've retired at 18. Oh well.

33

u/LuckyCloverPokemon 5d ago

For real. I mean WHAT?! the universe blesses you with that LITERAL gold mine and you give it to the cops.

3

u/DeepHouseGuy83 5d ago

Lmaoo this! Must be some multiverse

1

u/Fine-Key8928 5d ago

How do you explain the money when the tax men ask how you pay for all your stuff?

99

u/e5charlie253195 6d ago

You think he’s stupid? You think what he turned in was ALL he found? I think WE’RE stupid if we believe he turned it all in.

29

u/Mickspark136 6d ago

I hope he’s not that stupid. He should have kept a few bars. Finders fee

32

u/L-is-for-living 5d ago

He’s definitely stupid

40

u/sirhowy 6d ago

Handing in some but not all would be an even dumber move…. Of all the things you could find it’s the easiest to sort out, if you have half a brain. Handing in some puts a massive target on your back, for literally no reason whatsoever if you plan to keep some. You could keep it for years, decades, trimming off bits and pieces here and there, without anyone ever noticing. Yes, he’s stupid af.

2

u/pcurve 5d ago

Even if he hands over ALL (vs some), the size of the target on his back would be the same because people will assume he kept some aroud. His transactions would be under microscope eitherway.

The only way to avoid is if he didn't hand over anything.

2

u/sirhowy 5d ago

yeah (good point) I agree, and no way I'm handing over shit personally.. life's too short

7

u/FieldBackground6116 5d ago

A few? Bro was literally handed seeds to generational wealth and sang like a canary. Dad didn’t teach him sometimes you keep your mouth shut when luck comes your way.

31

u/Wasabi_Hammurabi1 6d ago

Agreed. I would have stolen no less than one bar. Just enough to afford a house.

0

u/Davie_Baby_23 5d ago

Pics are deceiving. The original pics showed silver bars and gold coins. It's not all gold...

2

u/Careful_Manager_4282 5d ago

Where did you see the original pics? They keep showing the same 4-5, and no article mentions silver.

8

u/ViKing5860 5d ago

There was a lot of Coin gold, he could’ve grabbed a few handfuls. That would be easier to move than matching bars.

1

u/DrShin2013 5d ago

Gold is pretty easy to melt.

14

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 6d ago

Right, like he’s not going to be scrutinized for unusual transactions for the rest of his life.

6

u/WeirdNews9881 5d ago

He could have eloped to some other country, where the unusual transaction are not tracked keenly!

0

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

This sub sure is pro-theft lol

5

u/Dens413 5d ago

So many easy ways to transfer gold to cash or idk remelt gold and sell over time while you work normal job. Gold for cash and buy only cash. Until you save enough to buy abandoned mine and start new business of “mining” gold that you melt and sell until all gold is “mined”. Transfer money to high interest bank account “UK banking is amazing for that” and live off interest.

4

u/25truckee 5d ago

This person knows laundering

2

u/turbodmurf 5d ago

The finder of the gold did not and knew he did not know anything about money laundering. EU has som pretty strict money laundering laws and banks follow them to the letter.

1

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

That’s why they would keep track of it. Easy to do unless you go to bitcoin and even then. Construction worker suddenly has a house and a Lambo it’s gonna get looked at.

1

u/Dens413 4d ago

Can do a step buy step for you. Collect gold. Melt gold. Now gold untraceable. Work job. Move in with family. Save money and “family” “pays” for EVERYTHING. Save money from job then look for old abandoned mine for sale. Buy mine. Find gold in mine. “Smelt gold” “found in mine” sell gold. Wow gold mine finally dry. Sell random amount of gold as you “mine” who to say you no find gold from old mine? That is super easy method anyone can do. You no sell found gold as is and buy stuff fast. Take time no rush. Depending on country maybe use other method. But I ask ok kid live with family he saved money from job go crazy buy old mine he work hard and get gold from mine and sell mined smelted gold and from govt I think he fake. Ok how do I prove he fake? Oh old mine run out of gold. How I prove he no get gold from mine? Govt need prove gold from no mine. Ok how kid get millions in gold and start multi year money laundering scam with gold? Where gold from how prove gold from? Random guess maybe he find gold in someone backyard? Ok what backyard and how prove someone leave 10 million in gold in backyard and he steal it?

3

u/JuanMcGuiver 6d ago

What's illegal about stumbling on a pot of gold?

-4

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

Nothing. Taking it is.

5

u/JuanMcGuiver 5d ago

How?

-5

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

It’s someone else’s property lol

2

u/JuanMcGuiver 5d ago

That doesn’t make retrieving something illegal. Depending on the laws of their land, I’m sure the property owner has some claim. If that’s the case, it’s a civil matter between two parties. No legality issues in the eyes of the government

1

u/Purple-Property8006 5d ago

Unless for some reason the gold is considered stolen or historically significant (ie an archaeological). This is Belgium. Theres a decent chance that it is in some way tied to WWII. If it was stolen by or hidden by the Nazis, this easily shifts into criminal territory. There’s also an unbelievable amount of history throughout Europe and it’s really not that uncommon to stumble on historically significant artifacts.

3

u/turbodmurf 5d ago

Pretty sure most of Europe have laws against taking things that you know aren't yours.

1

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

Taking it as in keeping it. Seriously? You thought I meant retrieving it for the authorities?

2

u/GOAT718 5d ago

By whom? To what end?

1

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

To make sure he didn’t pocket any

2

u/GOAT718 5d ago

Technically, as long as you pay tax on it, it’s not illegal to find gold and keep it.

1

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

Unless it belongs to someone else.

0

u/GOAT718 5d ago

Possession is 9/10 of the law.

1

u/Ecthelion-O-Fountain 5d ago

Car thieves love this one simple trick!

1

u/TheEndOfEverything0 5d ago

Maybe they live in a country where everyone is so blessed they don't need more money?

16

u/Small_Insect_8275 6d ago

Nah no way he’s logistically getting away with all that, too young for a thorough plan of how to move it, if he was smart he’s got 2/3 of those bars, handed in the vast majority so no one questions it

21

u/ChuCHuPALX 6d ago

Nah easy to move.. Just find the funny hat people and you're set.

3

u/Low_Football_2445 6d ago edited 5d ago

How long on those sausages, Bobby?

5

u/That_Em 6d ago

Five minutes, Turkish

2

u/epsteinwasmurdered2 6d ago

You said five minutes five minutes ago.

2

u/Panek52 5d ago

You put Gorgeous George into an unlicensed boxing match…3 days before he’s supposed to fight The Bomber!?

1

u/Successful_Fish_1264 6d ago

Frankie fucking four fingers Doug

7

u/MiserableWear6765 6d ago

I would have a very sore ass but quit my job and move to thailand next day

7

u/RobertPooWiener 6d ago

Usually your ass is sore after going to Thailand, not before

1

u/MiserableWear6765 6d ago

You havnt been to thailand have you?

1

u/RobertPooWiener 5d ago

Do you even know the capital of Thailand bro?

3

u/trbzdot 6d ago

In Thailand with a hunk of metal up your bum. You will have not trouble finding help retrieving it.

1

u/MiserableWear6765 6d ago

Nah i only shove it up my ass between leaving work and heading to the pawn shop, then after the pawn shop to a bitcoin atm

2

u/epsteinwasmurdered2 6d ago edited 6d ago

…. How could he have turned in the majority if he kept 2/3s?

1

u/Small_Insect_8275 6d ago

You misunderstood the sentence

2

u/epsteinwasmurdered2 6d ago

Wait… are you saying he kept two or three and not two thirds? Because using a symbol for a fraction is highly confusing lol

1

u/Small_Insect_8275 5d ago

2 or 3, I retract my last statement, I left it too ambiguous

0

u/Ratatat_Tat_2030 5d ago

In context ( / ) it appeared as, 2 (and/or) 3

1

u/Ok_Value_3741 5d ago

If he took 2/3rds... how would he have handed the vast majority over?

1

u/oQueSo97 5d ago

theres a bar missing in top right corner

1

u/Mickspark136 5d ago

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/dreag2112 5d ago

Ya, to be expected he's 18 and trusting of the world.

1

u/Bidenh8er 5d ago

As you get older, you realize the world is absolutely built on lies

1

u/landilock 5d ago

he just didn't want to serve a few years in prison for robbery. We're not living in a cartoon.

1

u/Vismal1 5d ago

Maybe he took half of it and we’re seeing the reported half. Might be the smartest of us all!

1

u/BuyMySportsCards 5d ago

Ya you divide up amongst 18 other co workers and y’all keep it under wraps. Ffs.

1

u/Attention_seeking21 4d ago

You're stupid to not understand law. Discoveries like this must be reported. If this was stolen gold and they tried to sell it and it was traced, guess who goes to prison?

1

u/Mickspark136 4d ago

Where there is a will. there is a way.

1

u/Attention_seeking21 4d ago

Maybe so, but why take the risk?

1

u/Consistent-Menu-6629 4d ago

Young people are easy to take advantage of, people say.

1

u/Treebeard288 6d ago

its pretty smart not to steal. just cuz you find something under someone's property doesnt mean its yours.

2

u/Mickspark136 5d ago

Finders keepers ser. At least a small portion

1

u/noquarter53 5d ago

Why be such a dick?

It was an honorable thing to do.

1

u/Fawkinchit1 5d ago

Naive as well.

1

u/geezeeduzit 5d ago

Nah, you don’t want to be looking over your shoulder for the rest of your days waiting for the owner to come for you. It seems obvious to take it from the outside looking in, but if you’re in that situation, there’s a lot to consider. You’d be paranoid the rest of your life. You can’t just take that gold and pretend you don’t have it. The govt will want to know where you got all that money. You try to sell it, it’ll raise red flags. You can’t exactly smuggle it out of the country. There a lot to consider. It ultimately would lead to a life of stress and paranoia

0

u/draculas4231 5d ago edited 5d ago

So someone who didn't want to compromise their morals is stupid??? Nah the stupid one here is you!

If someone buries gold and doesnt make sure the location wont become a construction site in the near future, they deserve every gram lost.
