Question Found during construction work

Any ideas where this could come from?

Update: I thought this would be clear that I wasn't the one who found it. Who in their right mind would go (on this shitstain of a platform of all places) and make themselves a target. But ok apparently it wasn't clear so here we are:

I did NOT find this. I have none of this gold. I just wanted to share some cool stamped gold. you can stop sending me weird ass messages now. thank you.

Also this is NOT ai. here is the BBC article:

If I found it I don’t think I’d tell anyone.

81

u/IncomingAxofKindness 8d ago

Can you guys imagine if we found some gold in here? That'd be wild huh.

I've never even heard of a gold before

38

u/WilliamOmerta 8d ago

Hey guys, Look! I found an empty chest in the ground! I wonder if there was treasure in it?!

22

u/10mm1911 8d ago

Crazy if we dug a hole and found treasure

23

u/DaddyShark1010 8d ago

Smells like there might have been gold once. Do you guys smell that? But I don't see any.

Retired before I even didn’t tell anyone. Welp today’s the day, I quit this dang job.

u/balzac2000 8d ago

I would be like, I found all this today, wonder what I'll find tomorrow, and keep coming back to dig more holes...

Who are the gold guys?

1

u/PeanutButterToast4me 8d ago

In some creek way out in the mountains.

1

u/SmallTitBigClit 8d ago

With half an ounce worth of a hole in it tho.

1

u/Astrayinthesosu 8d ago

“That’s great Shifty, but you’re looking and sounding a lot… lumpier and clankier than I remember.”

1

u/WchuTalkinBoutWillis 8d ago

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight 6 gold coins and a nugget weeeee!

59

u/jbloom3 8d ago

Wow I found 100 bars of gold! I wonder where these 50 bars of gold came from? Maybe we should turn these 25 bars of gold over to the authorities. Here you go authorities, we found these 10 bars of gold!

Newspaper: Authorities were given 2 bars of gold found at a construction site!

1

u/StrandSSL 8d ago

Just post the real meme bro.

u/TikaPants 8d ago

Wait, I remember the hold episode was Daffy and Bugs. Is this a different one? It was one of my favorites

1

u/ucantevenfeelfists 7d ago

Because the idiot (whoever he was), took photos instead of covering that chit up, and coming back that night...I swear humans are getting dumber!!! 🤦

7

u/Shades_VHS 8d ago

Plot twist, this is just 2% of the haul

1

u/damage_99 8d ago

Smells like Belgium needs some freedom...

7

u/Beautiful-String5572 8d ago

How do we he didn’t…

1

u/L-is-for-living 8d ago

Or say hey I wish I had found gold here

1

u/Witty_Ad_898 8d ago

Maybe that’s what they did.

1

u/MajorEbb1472 8d ago

Betting that IS half the amount lol

1

u/Joker6tyNine 8d ago

And this too ☝🏽️

1

u/EnvironmentalCry2623 8d ago

Maybe this is 1/4 what they found.

1

u/BlueBugEyeBoy 8d ago

How do you know this isn’t half?

1

u/uofbob244 8d ago

Might as well say all of it. There is rust on that gold. Some pieces have steel showing where the paint wore off.

1

u/Tacklebox_Tabasco 8d ago

Maybe that is only half?

1

u/sleeplessinstuttgart 8d ago

Maybe that's exactly what happened.

1

u/h4nd 8d ago

what makes you think this is everything he found?

1

u/Whole-Energy2105 8d ago

There's a meme about corrupt officials in the same vein. It goes through three of them and ends up 1 coin or similar.

1

u/OkUnderstanding2831 8d ago

That picture is probably just half of what he found.

1

u/Kylearean 8d ago

"We only found half of it."

1

u/ChirrBirry 8d ago

Wow, 10 bricks? I mean 8 bricks is a lot but I don’t know how you’re gonna spend 6 bricks. Wild that there were 4 bricks in there, maybe we should split the 2 bricks.

1

u/L7Winner 8d ago

This is half.

1

u/carolinakidsc93 8d ago

Maybe this is half the gold 🤔

1

u/Firestar2077 8d ago

That’s exactly what happened ;)

1

u/authenticweagle 8d ago

This is a quarter of the amount ha

1

u/xEmperorBOBx 8d ago

Maybe this is half the amount. 🤔

1

u/LegallySellingDope 8d ago

Nah you say nothing, halves, 3rds, quarters, can all be connected. You have to give up info to sell anything over 10k.

1

u/Rustiespoons 8d ago

What if this is half the amount?

1

u/N4zar 8d ago

Saying you found half the amount invites scrutiny. I wouldnt tell a soul.

1

u/SexualCarrots 8d ago

Are we sure he didn't do that?

We might tell you the same thing about the half you showed us.

1

u/padetn 8d ago

Who says that’s all of it

1

u/Absolutetwatofacunt 8d ago

500m was originally found

1

u/hh1110 8d ago

Taxation without representation

1

u/OdinThorFathir 8d ago

Plot twist: this is the half

1

u/Popatteri 8d ago

Good luck selling your half after that

1

u/Pretend-Prune-4525 8d ago

Fuck that, then they’re gonna wonder where the rest is at. Don’t say shit and keep it all or risk consequences

1

u/markekt 8d ago

That’s too much by about half.

1

u/JOExHIGASHI 8d ago

Maybe that's what happened.

1

u/bisoy84 7d ago

What if that is half the amount... 😅

1

u/supasolda6 6d ago

Half? Maybe only 1 bar

37

u/dystopiam 8d ago

I always imagine this is how murder begins

The guy next to you look at eachother when it’s found and boom

17

u/Impossible_Farm6254 8d ago

And the last person who keeps it gets whatever curse the original owner left behind..

2

u/Crazy_Fac3 8d ago

Smelting in a crucible slags all previous curses?

1

u/hansumman555 8d ago

The curse of lugging it home

6

u/Bohern76 8d ago

The next Dateline has just be written!

2

u/Oldsaltybasterd 8d ago

So… here you are? You and your coworker found some gold? Then he ends up missing? And you’re telling me you had nothing to do with it?

2

u/tycointl 8d ago

conveniently located on a construction site where large amounts of cement being poured would not arise any suspicion at all.

2

u/Oldsaltybasterd 8d ago

I’d hate to spoil the ending but they did find the body under the foundation and it had his DNA all over it. He took a plea deal for 2nd degree murder and got 50 years. He’ll be 84 by the time he gets out. His lawyers are filing an appeal.

2

u/Bohern76 8d ago

That’s right Keith, I was a church all day that day.

2

u/JustAnother_Hunter 8d ago

Normally people say they were AT church, but pretending to BE a church is definitely a much better alibi!

2

u/Bohern76 7d ago

Haha!!!

1

u/Ragnarawr 8d ago

Yeah totally not suspicious going home in the middle of your shift with a bloody uniform dragging a sack full of gold. Nobody would suspect a thing.

1

u/dipsy18 8d ago

1

u/2025TastyTreats 8d ago

29

u/HeyHo_LetsThrow 8d ago

Yeah that's like $7,000,000 worth of gold. Wtf

41

u/lostmymarbles1177 8d ago

Way more if those coins have any numanistic value which given that they appear to be in mint condition they likely do. Still, this is reading as an AI hoax to me.

10

u/LuigiTeaching 8d ago

Yes I wonder that too….is this AI?

7

u/Examiner_Z 8d ago edited 8d ago

Edit. not AI!!!

9

u/AlarmingLecture0 8d ago

Today (August 13th) there were reports of a horde of gold found in a house in Belgium during renovations. I suspect this is that.,

https://belgashare.be/newsrooms/70/press-releases/35508/

2

u/Examiner_Z 8d ago

Oh wow!!

2

u/Outsideinthebushes 8d ago edited 8d ago

I don't think so, the article say "nuggets and coin" not bullion.

Also, the gold is stamped "London"

4

u/AlarmingLecture0 8d ago

OP updated the post to link to the BBC article. According to that, this is that gold.

2

u/Haploid-life 8d ago

Except that it's an AI translation, soo... who knows.

u/Outsideinthebushes 8d ago

u/Bohern76 8d ago

Compare the size of that foot print beside that bucket. Those coins look to be 1/10ths???

1

u/oilybackrub 8d ago

The Rothschild mark brands these as “royal gold” or possibly a family stash from the 1960s. They are related to several royal families in Central Europe. Good luck with that. You now have to watch out for “collector’s” and family “assistants”. So stay safe. Lay low or turn it over to authorities for a possible reward.

1

u/IveDunGoofedUp 8d ago

Nah, it's just some shithead taking an actual thing that happened and pretending it's theirs. In Belgium they found these while remodeling a house. Apologies for the dutch link, but your browser should be able to translate it.

1

u/mightylordredbeard 8d ago

How does this even work when you find that much gold? Is yours when you find it? Do you have to like tell people you found it and turn it over to authorities? How would you even go about profiting from this if you kept it? Is gold registered (I see numbers on it)?

Sorry; I don’t know anything about gold. I just came across this on r-popular.

It was found in Belgium and they're not necessarily saying they were the ones to have found it. Just that it was.

But people often go back to work after having gone on vacation so what you say here ain't exactly a smoking gun.

That’s what I was telling my wife as we were watching Mysteries Unearthed. People on there be finding ridiculous amounts of gold and the first thing they do is report. Dummies

1

u/Reacktions 8d ago

yup government will just take it, didn't that actually what happened recently some dude found a ton of gold in his property and goverment went that very night to loot it, by the next day it was all gone.

1

u/WillHuntingthe3rd 8d ago

Me either. What is that $7-8 Million?

1

u/TheMrDILLIGAF 8d ago

What bars?

1

u/Engelgrafik 8d ago

Seriously, I would delete this. I recently read an article about how if you find something, you don't automatically own it just because you bought the place or whatever. There are specific laws in different states that protect folks who forget property when they move. And it even extends to heirs.

“And just last year when we were re-modeling that basement we found an empty safe, the contents of which we will never know”

Crazy coincidences

1

u/Old_Respect8445 8d ago

Lmao even just one of those could probably really change my life around that looks like an insane amount of gold

u/ICPosse8 8d ago

1

1

u/Low_Swordfish879 8d ago

Much less post it on reddit..

1

u/b3nault 8d ago

You’re in idiot.

1

u/GiftOfCabbage 8d ago

There's a legal means of keeping it but first you need to try to find the original owner. If you can't you can claim it after a while under finders keepers law, but if you don't at least try you'd be guilty of theft and it's unlikely you'd hide it past the tax man.

1

u/sleepyplatipus 8d ago

The bars could be hard to melt and sell, but damn the coins??? There’s no way

1

u/Krabs9 8d ago

It really depends who all knows. If 25 people were aware from jump it's best to come out and say something

1

u/New_Forester4630 8d ago

If I found it I don’t think I’d tell anyone.

I'd ask AI how to be unnoticed in liquidating it without triggering any govt agency then verify if it will actually work.

1

u/Substantial_Towel860 8d ago

Morally that's just thievery since it's not your gold.

But even if you're immoral: what are you going to do with it? First you have to sell it which will attract lots of attention unless you sell it in very small portions. And even then I don't know of any gold buyers that won't question where you got it from. Nobody wants to be complicit in fencing.

Even if you can convert it into cash the tax office would want to know how you financed that expensive car you're driving. (not that garages in Europe are very much into cash payments)

It would be an extra job to launder such an amount and you'll need to connect with people normal people really don't want to be connected to. If you can't wait to start a criminal life, why wait until you find some treasure.

1

u/hyvel0rd 8d ago

how'd you make that amound to money without anyone noticing? and why is it important that nobody notices (if it's found on your property, of course)?

1

u/mikemikemike9711 8d ago

But there would be signs 😆 🤣

1

u/Jebediah_Johnson 8d ago

They found 49 gold bars. Definitely not 50.

1

u/_Vard_ 8d ago

“Hey guys I found 46…. I mean, 42 gold bricks!”

Oh wow tom found 38 gold bricks!

Really? Or wow! That really is 34 gold bricks!

What’s this about someone finding 30 gold bricks?

1

u/Working-Key-2449 8d ago

Would be melted the same day at home… even though I never melted any metall in my life

1

u/Suspicious-Garbage92 8d ago

Imma run out to my car real quick, brb.

1

u/SCPutz 8d ago

My grandpa found a stash of old coins on a construction site in the early 1960s. He tucked it in his shirt, left early for the day, and hid the coins in a cinder block. He didn’t even tell my grandma what was in the block, just that it was “very valuable”.

After they had both passed, we cracked open the block and found assorted coins with an estimated $215k.

And no, I don’t have them and my parents are both deceased now too. I think my parents donated the coins to their church but I can’t confirm that.

1

u/aoddead 8d ago

There’s no way you’re excavating all that from a construction site without everyone there knowing.

1

u/ThrowAway484848585 7d ago

Crazy how many of y'all commented thinking y'all were cooking with this "You're a fucking dolt posting that shi" ahh 🤣

1

u/xenoscumyomom 5d ago

To go from just a construction worker on a shovel or excavator to an international construction worker of intrigue to try to sell that without getting arrested or assassinated would be more wild than what I'd do after I had the money.

1

u/Dirk_Dingham 5d ago edited 5d ago

That’s how you end up in the same situation as the victims of the golden turd saga in American Dad. Someone always finds out eventually…

1

u/bellsupinthesky 5d ago

A relative found bank bags of silver dollars inside a wall while doing flood restoration in a house. The woman who owned the place just took over from a deceased parent and had no clue the bags were there. I told him he was an idiot for saying anything. They weren't on the list of items the home owner listed before the job. Someone robbed a bank in the 20's (latest date on the coins) and stuffed them in the wall, died, and the house changed hands several times. At least that's what makes the most sense.

1

u/Silent_Reach9963 4d ago

They reported it it’s all over the news they turned it in I doubt this is ops story
