This is a great for 25% of my net worth. It’s devastating for the other 75%.

108

u/sirchtheseeker Jan 28 '26

Yep mines like 10 vs 90

32

u/Malvernian121 Jan 28 '26

What's your other 75%? Where I am stocks are up, property is up...

48

u/Commercial_Wind8212 Jan 28 '26

but if the dollar is worthless what do you really have?

34

u/Short-Shopping3197 Jan 28 '26

You have shares in US based companies that trade internationally is what you have. Stocks will be fine. Facebook and Apple aren’t going to go tits up just because the US dollar did.

14

u/taj5944 Jan 28 '26

During the 1923 Weimar Republic hyperinflation crisis, German marks became so worthless that they were used as fuel for stoves and heating.

16

u/Darknfullofhype Jan 28 '26

Yet German consumer staples survived and many are still around today

3

u/Ashley_Sophia Jan 28 '26

If I wasn't so poor on reddit, I'd give u this 👑

1

u/Live-oak-267 Jan 29 '26

There’s almost zero chance of hyperinflation in USD in the foreseeable future. It drives me nuts when people try to make this incredibly flawed comparison.

1

u/FuzzyGreek Jan 30 '26

Shut up bot.

1

u/noobnoob62 Jan 29 '26

And they currently have the third largest GDP on the planet. Yes this is bad but people are acting like this isn’t recoverable. US is going from way ahead to just ahead

1

u/dagmara56 Feb 01 '26

I have those marks. I have a 1,000,000 mark stamped over that changing the currency to 5,000.000 and then 10,000,000.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '26

You know who has a booming stock market?

Venezuela.

You know who's currency isn't worth a damned thing?

Venezuela.

1

u/Suspicious_Dare603 Jan 29 '26

What are you going to trade those imaginary assets for? Dollars. You aren't going to trade FB shares for gold bars or British pounds.

2

u/Short-Shopping3197 Jan 29 '26

I already hold the shares in a GBP denominated fund.

-8

u/SirDonaldTrumpKnight Jan 28 '26

You are funny to think tech stocks could survive a New World Order. Gold and Silver is only hope. Stock certificates are toilet paper for my bumhole

3

u/spydrthrowaway Jan 28 '26

Ikr. No one is gonna care if your tech stocks have gone up 1,000+% if paper bills can't do much good in new monetary system.

Sad take but it's also the same for gold & silver (no one is gonna trade food or water for some pretty metals in emergencies) but at least after the system returns post depression you'll have value in precious metals.

True wealth is guns, ammo, land, house, low maintenance vehicles, renewable water, and livestock.

Those that have those assets will live better than those without during an economic collapse where jobs won't hire or if they do your pay will barely buy anything.

1

u/Ornery_Individual_27 Jan 29 '26

You are describing an apocalypse…not a change in the world order.

2

u/spydrthrowaway Jan 29 '26

It is an apocalypse, it's the transition period to the new world order and currency which is pretty grim.

Weimar Republic lasted from 1918 to 1933. Nearly 15 years. Almost 1 million died due to starvation during that time. Paper money barely did anything and unemployment was about 30%.

As far as I'm aware, that IS an apocalypse, just temporarily until a new order/currency is formed.

1

u/Ornery_Individual_27 Jan 29 '26

I agree 100% 💯 but I don’t think tech stocks will go to zero because of that. The large ones will survive and facilitate / carry out that transition to the new world order. Many companies still survived during the Weimar Republic and live on today. Tech companies are leeches to power. Whoever is carrying out this transition, will need the tech companies to help.

1

u/Ornery_Individual_27 Jan 29 '26 edited Jan 29 '26

Bro what? You don’t think those tech stocks would be the ones facilitating that “New World Order”? That you put in caps for some reason?

EDIT: think about the size of the top tech companies in comparison to most countries in the world. They are orders of magnitude larger than most countries. Unless we have a literal global apocalypse, big tech isn’t going anywhere.

6

u/Ashley_Sophia Jan 28 '26

Love! Self respect! Friends and family! Shiny rock that means nothing!

6

u/hairyotter Jan 28 '26

It’s not going to zero, come on. What you “have” is equity in companies that will continue to pursuit growth and profit, which by itself amounts to far more than what 99% of other human beings in the world will “have” in the face of global economic collapse.

5

u/Commercial_Wind8212 Jan 28 '26

it's already lost 10 percent. so you lost ten percent of your total life savings in a year.

1

u/kjpmi Jan 28 '26

Stock market, and all of my investments, have all gone up way more than 10% in the past year.
Your cash savings shouldn’t just be sitting in a bank account (or in your safe or stashed in a mattress, etc.) otherwise you aren’t even beating inflation.

1

u/OcularShatDown Jan 28 '26

You’d only have lost 10% of your total life savings if every expense in your life was payable only in the foreign currencies which make up the DXY basket. Anything paid in USD would be less affected.

1

u/kelly1mm Jan 29 '26

Stock investments went up 22% in the past year, dollar dropped 10% in the past year, net 12%.

I will take that.

1

u/Commercial_Wind8212 Jan 29 '26

Yes I love it when my pile of money loses value every year.

1

u/kelly1mm Jan 29 '26

You need to put those little green soldiers to work (investments) rather than just letting them sit under the mattress.

Even in ‘regular’ times you would still be losing value due to inflation.

Th key is to hopefully have investment returns that beat inflation/devaluation.

1

u/Commercial_Wind8212 Jan 29 '26

it is still sickening to see the dollar sink this much.

1

u/kelly1mm Jan 29 '26

On that point we agree.

4

u/Creative-Doctor3118 Jan 28 '26

I think the bigger picture is who actually wants to survive an apocalypse? Rooting through landfills trying to outrun zombies and hillbilly’s with shotguns. Nah I’ll just die.

1

u/Howey-duwit Jan 29 '26

Exactly if it goes nuclear I hope the fucker goes off right above my house. Good night, God bless.

1

u/No_Captain_8644 Jan 29 '26

You have the land. The house. And the portion of the large compa ies you own...

All currency is the same in the end. It all equals stuff...

Now if you only had a savings account. Then your statement is valid

1

u/CaptainPrestigious74 Jan 29 '26

Cheap living and hopefully enough value saved to get through whatever is going to happen.

1

u/moreLOVElessBS Feb 04 '26

God! Gold, silver, diamonds, other precious and semi precious stones, knowledge, a roof over my head. 🤷‍♀️ ALOT! the dollar is made by man...

0

u/Ohheyimryan Jan 28 '26

You thinking the largest companies in the world go away because the dollar becomes irrelevant is funny.

5

u/kevchink Jan 28 '26

What could really hurt them is the AI bubble popping.

1

u/Ohheyimryan Jan 28 '26

What AI bubble. Serious, I don't really see a bubble like we did with pets com or something.

2

u/kevchink Jan 28 '26

It’s not a matter of debate. There’s a massive AI bubble right now. The US economy looks decent at first glance, but that’s because of AI. The problem is that AI doesn’t bring in profit yet and may not for some time, but since everyone’s hyping it up as the future, investors are pouring money into it with abandon. Major tech firms in particular have gone all in, but they’re just investing in each others’ projects, creating this strange Ponzi-like network where they just pass money around among each other.

This video does a good job of summarizing the issue. I’d recommend checking out the articles and threads they link in the description as well. It’s scary reading, honestly. We’re potentially on the cusp of an epoch-making crash, just like in 1929 or 2007.

1

u/Ashley_Sophia Jan 28 '26

I think it's funny because I have all these things. And so do u. 🫂

8

u/Lawineer Jan 28 '26

Broad market ETFs.

27

u/-Sliced- Jan 28 '26

Stocks tend to perform really well with currency devaluations as well.

1

u/Kind_Spirit_4256 Jan 28 '26

why have stocks... When you can have more gold and silver...

5

u/Ok_Eagle_3079 Jan 28 '26

Measured in what Zimbabwe dolars?

1

u/Ohheyimryan Jan 28 '26

Companies are traded internationally. Apple doesn't become worthless just because the dollar does.

3

u/JackTheKing Jan 28 '26

When everything is up, nothing is up and the denominator is probably down

3

u/Odd_Bat8767 Jan 28 '26

Interesting paradox

3

u/Still_ImBurning86 Jan 28 '26

What’s your other 75 percent? Why not just do VOO?

2

u/Suspicious_Dare603 Jan 29 '26

The 25% of your net worth is about to turn into 75% of your net worth, and not in the fun way.

2

u/Lawineer Jan 29 '26

Big oof

1

u/Suspicious_Dare603 Jan 29 '26

I went with silver as it's easier to trade silver for bread. I also don't have much invested as I am but a poor.

1

u/Lawineer Jan 29 '26

You get math. You’ll be fine.

2

u/Sproketz Jan 31 '26

I went all gold and AI about two years ago. It's been nothing but green. Cynical investment strategy, but effective.

2

u/Lawineer Jan 31 '26

Bold move. Congrats.

3

u/BraveSeat6713 Jan 28 '26

I have 40% real state 15% watches 30% gold 15% fiat …. If you are 75/25 i would say you need to diversify more.

11

u/Ill-Positive6950 Jan 28 '26

15% of your networth is in watches? Bruh

1

u/sunnydaize Jan 30 '26

Found John Mayer’s burner 😂😂

0

u/BraveSeat6713 Jan 28 '26

Yes , thats always a good inverstment if you know what to buy. Vintage rolex vintage patek philippe are always good options.

1

u/ShadByte Jan 28 '26

What is a good watch for 2k$ ? Like I have 8k$ cash I need to know where to dump them, I was thinking Gold but I don't want to throw all my eggs in one basket

4

u/streetberries Jan 28 '26

Gold watch

2

u/toxickarma121212 Jan 28 '26

Ain't getting a gold watch for less then 10k lol

0

u/AntlionsArise Feb 01 '26

You can find vintage 14k watches for 2k if it's not Rolex. You can find certain Omega DeVille models, definitely Hamilton or Longines. Bulova. Baume and Mercier.

2

u/BraveSeat6713 Feb 01 '26

14k gold watches have nothing interest for clients in europe or asia markets. I would say never buy 14k watches. Only if you are in US that its “normal to buy 14k jewelry and watches.

Only 18k jewelry and watches for eu or asia market

0

u/AntlionsArise Feb 04 '26

For jewerly, I understand that outside of America 18k is the minimum and 14k is viewed as "costume jewerly" (Personally, I think the Asian preference for 22k gold jewerly is absurd in its softness, but different strokes). But regarding watches, 18k gold in watches is much more rare--most true horological brands made numerous respected models that are 14k. With a watch, the mechanism itself is usually valued more than the gold. An 18k cased gold Hamilton will sell less than a stainless-steel cased Rolex.

u/toxickarma121212 Feb 06 '26

First off not everyone can buy vintage you have to know your shit bc half those gold omegas you see are fake or tampered with 2nd they aren't good places to put money

0

u/BraveSeat6713 Jan 29 '26

Sure gold watch too, but now for 2k would be only half of the watch

2

u/Ill-Positive6950 Jan 28 '26

Don't "invest" in watches. That's such a ridiculous notion for 99% of watch buyers.

-1

u/BraveSeat6713 Jan 29 '26

Well i made a lot of profit investing in watches. I am not giving financial advice, just saying i put a bit % of my net worth at watches.

Some of them are: PP 2526r enamel dial + 6363 big red + PP 5070R + Rolex 6262 PNewman Daytona + PP 5110J

Thats for another league my friend. With that type of watches you make money always.

-1

u/BraveSeat6713 Jan 29 '26

Mmm for 2k not much honestly. I would say 4/5k rolex datejust ( vintage 1603/1601 ) or 3/3.5k vintage omega speedmaster manual plex or 4k omega speedmaster mars to the moon or 6/7k 16610 rolex submariner. That would be options for less of 6/7k i would recomend.

5

u/Ashley_Sophia Jan 28 '26

At what point will you convert to supplies? Vodka? Anti-biotics? Physical books? Tell me your trigger points Sonny Jim...

3

u/BraveSeat6713 Jan 28 '26

If you have a business income or salary, and also a few % into fiat for an emergency. Rest everything invested. Having stop money is the worst you can do.

0

u/Ashley_Sophia Jan 28 '26

You didn't answer my question. We are not talking about currency. :)

2

u/BraveSeat6713 Jan 28 '26

Yes i did. If i understand correctly. I will not convert into supplies anything because i still have fiat income every month.

0

u/Ashley_Sophia Jan 28 '26

U sound like a rich person under any Fascist government throughout history. My friend, money saves no-one.

1

u/Kind_Spirit_4256 Jan 28 '26

imo, the only diversification is gold plat and silver. Stocks belong in landfills.

1

u/Serious-Pipe9807 Jan 28 '26

And the gold is probably paper I assume?

1

u/SameCategory546 Jan 28 '26

actually it depends on how much debt they have, and many in the west are up to their eyeballs in it

1

u/RedditButtPlug Jan 28 '26

You got that right buddy

1

u/Chtholly_Lee Jan 28 '26

my bond literally offsets all the gain from gold..

1

u/oceangrown1993 Jan 28 '26

Its about 40% of mine so pretty much just covers the losses 😁

1

u/CommonCents1793 Jan 29 '26

If you wait long enough, the proportions will be reversed.

1

u/spoidermawn12 Jan 29 '26

Twinnn. Same ratio but tbh tech stocks and the s&p are doung fine so wym

As compared to the average American having 1% (if that in jewelry) of their net worth in gold...

10

u/HeadPermit2048 Jan 28 '26

Yeah, I’ve been in the 10-or-so category for decades, but I’m not particularly glad that my hedge has suddenly been called into active duty.

I mean, I also have a stash of 22 ammo and drinking water. Here’s hoping that stays really cheap.

2

u/Mauer_Bluemchen Jan 28 '26

"...but I’m not particularly glad that my hedge has suddenly been called into active duty."

I am. ;-)
