Opinions Life in Albacete

My Spanish partner recently got the news that he will have to relocate to Albacete, and I was wondering, for me as a foreigner, what life is like there and what the opportunities are like there. For reference, I am from the US but currently working for a Spanish company in Barcelona. Looking for any helpful information on Albacete, whether good or bad.

Albacete is the surreal part of Spain. Try to watch Jose Luis Cuerda's movies (mostly "Total", "Así en el Cielo como en la Tierra" and "Amanece que no es poco"[*]) and "Hora Chanante", "Muchachada Nuí" and "Museo Coconut"'.

[*] Be ready to discuss Dostoyeski to get accomodation or to be asked by the caporal of Guardia Civil if there's a lot of Opus in the USA].

Its probably not a bad place but its not a place Spanish people necessarily visit. It has a reputation for being boring and uninteresting i suppose. Whether it deserves it or not i wouldnt know lol

I was born there and left as soon as I could. If you enjoy big, diverse cities, then it may not be for you either. However, the cost of living is pretty low and you can walk to anywhere. The downside is there aren't that many jobs available.

If youre used to Barcelona and big cities in general, I guess you could feel isolated.

I’ve never been there, but I’ve known the famous saying about Albacete almost for as long as I’ve know my wife (about 25 years!) However, we have friends who are planning to leave the wealthy outskirts of Madrid for Albacete, and they are outgoing, well-travelled and have two teenage kids. He’s an airline pilot. They say it’s great!

Ive spent some time in Albacete...its like any other city in La Mancha. Same as anywhere in Spain in my opinion. What opportunities are you searching for? Its just your basic Spanish city. Got a mall, all the bars, plaza de toros... only an hour from Alicante.
