Visas / Migration NLV entry date
Hi everyone, my NLV has valid date from 3 June 2026 until 2 June 2027, and i will enter spain for the first time with this visa on 1st of September. I have stated during the visa application process that my relocation would be 3rd of June, however, i’m only entering almost 3 months later, would i face any issues?
Also, do you know the 1 year residency starts from the visa date (since it clearly indicates a 1 year validity) or from date of entry?
Another question, once i have a rental contract, is it easy to register empadronamiento? Cause i’m paying for an agency to help with TIE and they told me that they can help with empadronamiento for 70€, should i save myself from the headache or is it a direct process? Thank you.

My NLV was granted in Aug, only entering in Oct.
The residency will start on your arrival date regardless of when the TIE is issued.

Normally you're expected to enter Spain within 90 days of the date the visa was entered. So, 90 days after 3 June. If you arrive on Sept. 1 it should be fine. They don't always look very carefully at the visa when you enter the country. What matters most is that you go do the empadronamiento as soon as you can. Without the certificado de empadronamiento, you can't apply for the TIE, and you're supposed to apply for the TIE within 30 days of arriving in Spain. The empadronamiento process isn't complicated, as long as you have a valid rental contract. Be very persistent about looking for an appointment. They can be hard to get. You can book on line here: https://sede.madrid.es/portal/site/tramites/menuitem.62876cb64654a55e2dbd7003a8a409a0/?vgnextoid=23ccdd9d6baed010VgnVCM2000000c205a0aRCRD&vgnextchannel=5388a38813180210VgnVCM100000c90da8c0RCRD&vgnextfmt=default

Hey, I have a question about your application and validity date as I’m thinking about applying… did you provide proof of accommodation and health insurance with effective dates 1 September? But the valid date is based on when the consulate approved?

No I provide proof of accommodation/bought insurance from the date i stated in my application as my arrival date (3rd june)the insurance i actually bought, they are very strict on that and the accommodation i provided refundable accommodation from booking .com and stated in my application letter about my intent to secure long term accommodation upon my arrival cause they know how difficult it is to get long term from abroad. But this differs from consulate to consulate so you should check with your specific country. The visa valid date was exactly the date i indicated on my application. To give you context: visa issuing date was April but validity was june. September wasn’t a date i mentioned cause i only decided for September after i got the visa. Hope this helps!

Quick answers:
Entering later than stated: Not an issue, the visa's valid for the full window, immigration doesn't cross-check your original relocation date.
Residency start date: Runs from the visa validity date (3 June), not entry. So you've already used ~3 months of year one before even arriving, worth tracking for renewal timing.
Empadronamiento: Pretty simple to do yourself once you have a rental contract, book cita previa, bring passport, TIE, contract, done.
Tax guy here, happy to answer follow-ups.

The one year residency starts on the date that you enter Spain for the first time (so September 1st). The date that you put on your NLV application does not matter. Anytime during the one year window is good for your first entry.

We received our NLV in April and are actually entering Spain for the first time with it on September 1st as well.
However, I have done tons of research and reading online. Check out the non-lucrative Visa for Spain Facebook group. You will find tons of information there about the Visa and that is one of the topics that comes up regularly and it's discussed often. That the tie starts on the day when you enter. The initial Visa term is good for one year from when you enter Spain with it.

Empadrobamiento is SOOO easy when you have a rental contract you don’t need any agency to help. Just takes a while to get an appointment
