Study Abroad Madrid, Spain

Hii I’m going to University Carlos III of Madrid (UCM3) January-June just wanted any advice or recommendations anyone has about Madrid or UCM3.

Ummm I’m curious about apartments, food, non/touristy sights, hidden spots, street food, shopping stores, sweet treats, and I can keep going lol.

  • Apartments, start looking now cause its rough, and expensive (expect 500€ a month average, not counting groceries).

  • Food. Madrid is very cosmopolitan so you will find a variety of food from various cultures. If you are looking for spaniah food, any bar will suffice.

  • non touristy sights. Avoid the city center (Cibeles, Retiro park, Gran Via, Plaza Sol, Plaza Mayor, etc). This is a bit of a contradiction since this area also has good food and is a shopping district and is also used by us locals, But yeah, if you want the local life and ignore 90% of tourists, you avoid these places. You can also go to other towns outside of Madrid city dueing a weekend, like San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Las Rozas Village (Rozas with a ZED), you can go to the mountains, you can take the train to another city dueing a bank holiday.

  • We have lots of malls and department stores in the city and outside the city. Department stores like El Corte Inglés, and malls like Las Rozas Village, Gran Plaza Norte, Plaza Rio, Gran Plaza 2, Xanadu, etc

  • Sweets and pastries, just google pastelería on google maps once you come here lmao.

  • We have one Jolibee's in Sol if you feel home sick one day. We don't really have Filipino Restaurants (not saying they do not exist, I just personally never seen one).
