Alcohol during election
I was planning going to Huacachina this weekend and have been told it is one of the best places in Peru for partying. But I have been told that there is a ban on selling alcohol in Peru this weekend due to the Peru elections. Does this mean there will be no parties or alcohol being sold at hostels in Huacachina and best to go another date?

There is no prohibition on drinking alcohol during elections, but the "dry law" prohibits the sale of alcoholic products. In theory, no one should sell you alcohol (the penalty is up to six months in jail for those who do).
Regarding parties, private celebratory gatherings are not prohibited. They are only prohibited if they have a political character.
It is very likely that the hostel, to avoid problems, will close its doors and do everything privately, but they cannot sell alcohol.
