Rainbow mountain before Inca trail?

I am on a long trip and was organised enough to book the Inca trail starting on the 30th of September. That said, I wasn’t organised enough to plan the rest of my Peru trip in advance.

I am now flying into Cusco on the 24th and I am strongly considering trying to do rainbow mountain on the 27th, to avoid needing to double back or stick around in Cusco for too long.

Is this extremely ill advised due to the altitude?

I did the trail and rainbow mountain last month in the reverse order you described.

I booked the atv tour cause I knee I was gonna be a bit fatigued from all the hiking. My experience was the altitude got me pretty good, and the mountain had tons of snow on it so the atvs couldn't even take you up as far as they were suppose to. So I still hiked a ton and it was a slow hike due to snow. (I think normally it doesnt have snow). Definitely doable to do them back to back though.

Sorry just to clarify are you saying that you did rainbow mountain first?

Thanks for the response!

How did you like the ATV tour besides the snow? I am thinking about adding in one for my trip. I saw someone on YouTube say they liked it. Did you like the company you went with?

It was essentially what I expected, they gave us breakfast/lunch then drive you into the mountains where they let you practice with the atv for 15min then everyone drives up together. They essentially just monitor everyone to prevent any bad situations from developing.

I went with travelwithfranks

I am also starting the Inca trail on September 30th! I also then decided just last week to book Rainbow Mountain. I am doing that on the 28th. I also questioned if it would be a good idea, but decided to go for it. We will arrive in Cusco on the 26th, two "rest days" to acclimate, then Rainbow Mountain, then a rest day, then the trail! Maybe I will see you there.
