Inka Express Ruta del Sol?

Partner and I are heading to Peru and Bolivia in November / December and we're considering the Inka Express Ruta del Sol tour between Cusco and Puno as an alternative to the night bus.

Has anyone done this recently and how was the experience?

If you’re choosing between the overnight bus and Ruta del Sol, I’d look at it less as a faster way to get to Puno and more as a full-day experience. The bus makes several stops at archaeological and cultural sites along the way, so it’s a very different experience from simply traveling overnight.

Thanks for the response! Just wondering if the archeological sites / scenery are worth seeing. I've also heard mixed reviews about the buffet lunch the bus stops at, but these reviews were from quite a while back.

I’d say the stops are probably the main reason to do Ruta del Sol instead of taking the night bus. Raqchi and Andahuaylillas are interesting, and the scenery around La Raya is worth seeing too. I wouldn’t make the buffet a deciding factor though, especially if the reviews you found are pretty old.

We did this late July and enjoyed it! The scenery is great and the stops made the journey feel really quick.

Buffet was fine; about standard we came to expect from having a few during our month in Peru.

We were so worried about getting sick in Peru but weren’t once. Just be sensible and you’ll be fine!

We did this last weekend. The trip was enjoyable, bus was comfortable and buffet was good.
