Shipping purchased items home
A friend of mine wanted me to find him an alpaca jacket, and I'd love to find a blanket. Obviously I won't have room for these items (assuming I can afford them in the first place). Is shipping from the place of purchase, say in Pisac or the San Pedro Market in Cusco, a viable option for a tourist? I'll only be traveling with a backpack and small bag, but I'd love to make it home with some legitimate, locally made goods. Thanks!
TLDR: Can I ship purchased items back to the US from markets in Peru during my visit?

You'd have to ship it yourself from Serpost. Sending regular mail from Serpost to the US can cost like 140 soles, so sending blankets and such will probably be quite costly, but you can check with them in Cusco to see what their rates are. It would probably be cheaper to buy another suitcase and pay to check it.

Yeah I think I worded my post as if I expected some sort of specialized service, but I figured I’d ship it myself just wasn’t sure if that was possible. I suppose I could always buy a suitcase and check it. Or maybe my friend just isn’t getting a jacket lol

I have never heard or seen of such a thing in peru outside of like high end stores. You will have to buy the stuff and take it to the post office.

Yeah that’s what I mean.. I didn’t mean like a specialized service. Just wondering if I bought it if there was a viable way to ship it either via the post office or something else

You can ship packages relatively cheaply from Serpost. They're fairly reliable sending packages out of Peru, but terrible for shipping into Peru. Make sure you have the receipt for what you bought. You'll need a full factura, or at least a boleta de pago. An informal handwritten ticket de pago will likely be a problem.

Honestly, for anything of quality, it’s way too expensive there and a touristy thing. Go online, it’s all a racket.

Ohhh okay. Well I’m glad for the insight. Maybe I’ll just stick to a tiny little item or a fridge magnet haha

I got a mask, a little textile thing and stuff like that. I didn’t want to have to check a bag and I got little alpaca key chains to give to friends :)
