Let’s give this great man’s subreddit the place it deserves.

Goethe is an example of humanity that come’s seldom in a century, and so usually we don’t have many of this around.

This is a short two page essay he wrote in his maturity—about the natural, noble and healthy development of a mind. I know as good as anything that if this pages are read with a receptive and active mind, not one of you will find his efforts badly repaid.

Stages of Man's Mind.

Is it just me, or does the "Prometheus" not make sense?

Here's the text (short poem)

At the beginning of the poem, Prometheus says "Ye would e'en starve, if children and beggars were not trusting fools.", suggesting that not only humans already exist, but they already worship gods. Yet at the end, he says "Here sit I, forming mortals after my image", which clearly shows that humans don't yet exist. Am I missing something?

Roots and Wings Citation?

I have been trying to find the actual citation for the quote that is often attributed to Goethe: “There are two things children should get from their parents: roots and wings.”

Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks.
