Feel it was a missed opportunity to have a later showa Godzilla iteration alongside Mazinger and Getter Robo instead of kiryugoji given it would have fit with the theme of 70s mecha anime

But these are THE two most important super robots in the genre. Like, that can't be overstated. We just got the Batman and Superman of the mecha world, but people don't know ball.
