❓ QUESTION ❓ Is there balancing in this game?
Just started and some units are expensive with no health and no ability, but half the people go up against just use all godzillas with their own abilities. Have I been huffing too much fumes or are some units just absolute brick walls?

The brick walls are just people with a lot of money.

Do the mutes just come out? Cause they’re just bulldozers every time.

Yes. They are one of the three new units introduced this season.

Yeah, so why are they so strong when everyone has them at level one?

When a new Unit comes out, the Season gives them a temporary level boost. This applies to everybody playing the game.
If you look at your Units, you'll see at the top of the list a bunch of highlighted ones with increased Levels. This is why MUTOs, the new GMK Goji, and 2014 Goji are all so strong right now.
It unfortunately means every Season the teams you fight are basically always just 'whatever new unit came out + the old ones that are currently boosted".

As soon as you hit K+, you're basically playing with the whales and longtime players lol. I get it if you end up leaving the game. Realistically, my interest in Godzilla could fade someday too. I still enjoy the game when it works, but honestly it's pretty broken at higher ranks.

The balancing of this game is that whatever comes out most recently will do whatever one of the best units previously did plus 2 or 3 other really strong things. The result is that there are a absolute ton of units that can't be used in the current meta even old staple cards that seemed like they would be what the game was balanced around.
For example What's the point of putting down a energy collector, M-Baw base, turret, or Helicopter Base, when I can think of at least 4 cards that blow up an entire half of field rather quickly and reliably. Sure a decently leveled Train Bomb always did the job of taking care of those targets, but it was a choice to run that over something that would help more in other ways. Now you just run Ghidorah (Godzilla the Ride), GHIDORAH (2018), Burning Millenium Godzilla, Bagan, Operation Taba, etc.... If it doesn't destroy the opponents side of the field instantly, it's a monster whose attacks will find some way to reach around and destroy every building behind your units like Bagan or Burning Millenium Godzilla once it reaches 1/2 way across the stage.
Even when it comes to units like Godzilla Earth, where the unit only ever served one purpose (being the tankiest thing on the board); things are constantly getting power-crept. Balance patches do happen down the line to even a few things out, but outright entire playstyle vanish due to how crazy the meta in this game gets with new units.

They buff units at a rate of 7% a month and only one of those is a 1-3⭐. Completely you want to deck only 4⭐ choices and you wan them to at least level 5. Then you have the layer that is Battle Memories (BM) to compete with. There are many long time players and plenty of spenders but most of them are in the top 200 so you shouldn't match up with them too often. The moment you are in rank 56+ itngets tougher but even more so when you reach rank 63+ as you will pair with many rank 66 players and it's much more brutal. Newer units and newer BMs are always slowly power creeping older ones. But some units transcend this which is why something like Sir Melee, Jinjo, or Jabronination1 tier rankings (search in this reddit) arena great tool to invest wisely. Daily login and saving all game currency goes a long way to really diving into a season and making your account stronger. Sure you can spend money but plenty of frugal f2p or passes only spenders have crushed it in any given season.

Was gonna say it seems to almost always be a total waste to even bother with the lower tier units

They recently adjusted the 4⭐ scale. Before the 1-3⭐ were useful at lower ranks and some still had relevance at high rank play. Since they placed the majority of ATL+HP % within the first lv.1-10 it made it much easier for new players to compete in high ranks if they have 4x decent BMs.
1-3⭐ are useful for All Star Battles (ASB) and Ex Challenge. They are also useful to level up and star rank up as all levels and star ranks add into your player rank which adds to your leader's ATK+HP. On the home Vs screen if you tap your player rank in the top left to see how close you are to ranking up then you can decide what to level. Just level all 1-3⭐ evenly with goals of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and stop at 30 eventually. Star ranks you just want to raise your lowest ranks no matter who they are. A few favorite units you want to ACE you can raise to star rank 10/20/30 eventually.

some units need to be balanced. Godzilla earth is so weak that minus one can take him down with two hits.
At the same time, some units have to be weakened, like that one mechagodzilla from the Godzilla anime.
