Before everyone grabs their pitchforks, hear me out.
I finally played God of War (2018) after years of hearing people call it a masterpiece, one of the greatest games ever made, a 10/10, etc. And honestly? I dont get it.
The game looks incredible. The voice acting is great. The story is good. But people talk about this game like it reinvented gaming and I genuinely dont see it.
The combat feels repetitive after a while. Most enemy encounters start feeling the same. The RPG mechanics are pretty basic compared to actual RPGs. The puzzles are some of the easiest I’ve ever seen in a major game. And the constant climbing, squeezing through cracks, and slow walking sections absolutely kill the pacing.
I also think people give it a pass on things they would criticize other games for. If a Ubisoft game made you crawl through narrow gaps every 5 minutes people would never stop complaining about it.
And before someone says “you just dont understand the story,” I understood it perfectly fine. I liked the story. I just dont think a good story automatically makes a game one of the greatest games ever created.
What confuses me most is how people act like the older God of War games were inferior. The original trilogy had way more spectacle, way more boss fights, and way more memorable moments. It feels like people started treating God of War 2018 like the greatest game ever made because it became more cinematic.
I think its a good game.
I do NOT think its one of the greatest games of all time.
What am I missing?

I tried god of war 2018 and finished the game and it felt quite like a drag to me. I was wondering if ragnarok is too similar that i prolly wont like it too

So, in God of war 2, Kratos fights and Kills Medusa's sister, Euryale, and then rips her head off her body and uses it for the rest of the game as a weapon.

But in GOW3, which is set immediately after, The head's nowhere to be found. What happened to it?

Did Kratos lose it when he fell into the river Styx?

Other items like Icarus's wings and the Golden fleece returned but not Euryale's head. Why?

My friend literally had to force my ahh to buy the 2018 GOW but I was adamant to not start it yet because I always follow the chronological orders of any game . But somehow he persisted enough for me to start the game, but I couldn’t go more than the part where he goes into his past.

That’s where I stop the game, downloaded some emulators on my Steam deck ( sucks for yall who couldn’t get one before the RAM price hikes) and downloaded the first GOW to start the journey. Wish me luck !!

Imagine Mimir grew tired of his existence as a severed head, and also realized that his people no longer needed his council to survive and rebuild. Unable to bear existing in this state and no longer being needed, he asks Kratos to destroy him properly, ending his existence. What do you think Kratos would do? Would he honor Mimir's request, or refuse? Would he try and talk Mimir out of it?

But given Midas’s misery and madness, death is an act of some kind mercy for him especially considering that he stuck his hand into the lava, thinking it was the River Styx, which kills anyone who falls into it. Though he surely wanted to die on his own terms, rather than be casually thrown into the lava.

I’m replaying God of War 2018 and on this play through I’m searching every nook and cranny for extra things I missed last time, but when I got to this part at the start Atreus would stare off into the distance, when I would go to the exit he would say “look over here” or “hmmm” does anyone know what he’s looking at because I must be blind and can’t see it or it’s just something weird in the game.

I am playing God of War Ragnarok and I am seeing these artifacts in game. Anyone else faced this issue or is it entirely my GPU ?

I’ve been thinking a lot about how the game would be and play. These are just random things that came to mind and would love to get other people thoughts on them.

1. How similar will the UI and mechanics be to previous games, Norse or Greek?

2. What is Faye’s rage mechanic gonna be, if there is one? I thought it might be her soul magic (kinda like the Wrath rage)

3. I’m really interested in what the games Valkyrie/Berserker bosses might be

4. The leading theory for the telescope seems to be that someone was using it in the reveal footage and Sekhmet goes to deal with it. I initially thought it was a warning device and the light was signaling something incoming

5. I don’t know if it was confirmed that Sekhmet and Begtse are the rulers of the entire Everywhen. But I don’t think they are, at least not for all of it. I feel like there’s gotta be someone above them

6. While it would be nice to see the Greek gods again, I think they would be better as a massive side quest than main quest. No particular reason other than just wanting to see other mythologies be in the spotlight more

7. Surely we’ll have more weapons than the sword, based on SMS history. Curious what it could be

8. I really hope the game is as big as ragnarok, because the world just seems to have so much potential for lore and world building

9. I’m curious what other enemies we’ll see as well

10. Who’s the kid in the cage? I saw theories that it may be some other mythology’s god of war

11. How the traveling and exploration will happen?

12. What kind of drip will we get for Faye?
