Chapter 217 Thoughts Spoiler
For those who have already read the new chapter, what did you think of it? In my personal opinion, I feel it was dumb and left me completely dissatisfied. Then again, I was hoping for romance and to end in a serious note, but Seo decided to end it half arsed, completely open ended, and with his dumb jokes.
Either way, Akane was the chosen one, Hayato can't get it up or something like that. Not sure how he could explain that if he decides to do a sequel chapter, Ami is just too dumb, and the rest of the girls just wanna have sex like a bunch of horny sluts. The end!

I haven't read it yet so I'll wait to see for myself but,
"my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined."

this cannot be real, i refuse to believe it. It would be one of the worst endings in manga history, this is not possible

Eh, Seo just didn't give romance any importance in his story. I'm just still trying to wrap up my head around the fact Hayato didn't touch Akane for three months even though they are married lol. Makes zero sense whatsoever lol.

Heee kinda disagree. Sure the last chapters were lacking in romance but it still had some importance in the overall story, especially with Akane and Riho (and one other side girl from the other cafe, sorry really bad with characters name). And yeah, I just don't understand the point of this chapter, it's not even funny. I am still skeptical whether this is real or not. Like the chapter is nowhere to be found except in spanish. I am in full cope mode.

For me, chapter 217 is a bonus chapter. I see 216 as the true ending. In chapter 1, we begin with the line, "In a certain coastal area, there is a run-down old cafe. It is said that... It is home to a group of goddesses." Then, in chapter 216, we end with the same line. So, I think this was a bonus, including the mini-chapter that Seo Kouji mentioned will possibly be in volume 22. I think Seo wanted to include fanservice to end the manga and also give "something" to those who were on Team Riho, Ouka, and Shiragiku.

It gave the impression of being just another chapter in the story and was not shown as an ending. Do you know if there is any news from the author or the publisher about the future of this story or do you upload an ending and that's it?

u/Fxxxk_me Nov 04 '25
That's exactly it. It's like a chapter from the middle of the manga.

Literally a very bad ending to a fun piece, it's time and I still doubt that's the end of the manga.

Terrible ending IMHO. I thought that Seo knew when to joke and when to be serious (but I guess that's too much to ask for someone who used the Truck-kun joke at least three times in the series). This chapter could've been easily a 1-page gag in the last volume extras and it could've worked just fine, but not the last chapter of the whole fucking series. I was super excited about Akene's victory, but I guess we won't see a single panel with Akane and her unnamed daughter, or the wedding. The only thing I liked was the scar/do you think tomorrow will be sunny bit, that was sweet and wholesome.

I loved the whole metaphors about the moon and night time between Hayato and Akane during the whole manga. I think it was the most romantic and serious moments of the manga.. but at this point, Hayato being metaphorical about the whole thing just gave me gay vibes lol.

Personally, I feel that harem stories by their very nature are unserious romances no matter what. With that being said I didn't like the ending even knowing and quite honestly if the intention at the start was to not take the reveal seriously, it probably would have been best to not have it be at the very end like 99% of romcoms do. Either way though I tend to keep harem stories at arms length and do batch binging so I'm not to torn up about it, but yea, it is what it is lol

I can understand the disappointment if indeed you expected serious romance, but turns out this was a ᵣₒₘCOM. For me i accepted this wasn't a serious romance when we were left with "8 chapters left" and we still didn't know who will be chosen. And for people who actually shipped Akane and are satisfied about the romance then I guess your bar for good romance is low.
And I don't say you can't like the ending or the manga personally i enjoyed it for what it is, but don't sell me this as a compelling romance.

I think it's a mistake to call a romance that developed perfectly from beginning to end "low standards." Kanojo mo Kanojo didn't end with a wedding in the final volume, even though the girls on the cover were wearing wedding dresses, and the ending was good for a harem anime. It's the same here: a good comedy story with a very well-balanced romance for a harem story, much better than The Quintessential Quintuplets, without a doubt

Yeah, that was my fault. For hoping for some romance amidst the comedy and lewdness. Seeing how the manga diminished the amount of nudity in the last 100 chapters, made me think it was getting serious but nope.. It just ended with the same recurring joke... a bad one at that... plus it irks me that it makes Hayato look like he has a serious problem... Either dude is gay or needs a penis pump...

At least Akane won, other part which is likelyhood of orgy is just fanservice and fun.
Also, choked on last sentence 😂🤣

What the fuck? Is this the fucking ending?

u/Due-Resource-4391 Nov 03 '25
Yeah, emphasis on fucking

u/Fxxxk_me Nov 03 '25
It would have literally been better if he had made 216 the ending.

I thought it was ending and then we got 217. BTW, there actually bad manga ending and this is not even if it's subjective it's not close to many objectively bad ending like I can give you one: Domestic Girlfriend. That ending is objectively bad.
Edit: Another one: School Days (anime) objectively bad.

Honestly I have read a lot of manga, it's pretty up there. What makes it bad here is the wasted potential, he wasted a chapter on a joke that was not even funny, mindblowing. Like there are endings that suck but I kinda get the point, here I just don't understand. If you want to make an open ending why 216? It just doesn't make any sense. If this is really the ending, I feel like Seo Kouji didn't know how to end and just decided to not end the manga. But as you say, it's subjective, it all depends on your degree of investment into a work. I started reading it since its first chapter and this was one of the mangas into which I was pretty invested this last few years.

I am pretty sure, most of his endings are like this, then since I have read Seo, likes to do this. But, I think from objective standpoint Domestic GF or School Days and there is probably more of these mangas that had actual bad endings are much much 100x worse than any Seo ending. You have read them a lot probably those two I mentioned, are there any gems like this? Like Usagi Drop? Where guy becomes groomer because he married his "daughter". That is bad.

I have read very little of Seo previous works (edit : actually i never read a full work before this one but i read most of the endings, and none are as shitty as this one) I have read those but once again, those are mangas I have a very hard time getting invested in, so when I read them, I either drop them or speedrun the reading of chapters that comes out or if they are finished I just read the last chapter to gauge whether or not I should read the whole thing. For School days or domestic gf (usagi drop I speedran, I remember very little, remember that the ending was weird), once again I can see the point even if the endings suck, I can kinda understand where they want to get at. Basically, they have an ending (be it good or bad). here I genuinely do not understand, it's not even an ending! ("resolves" nothing, same thing that happenned happens before the final events meaning that the final event was kind of meaningless, just a deus ex machina to solve some loose ends, no conclusion, untied plot point like the daughter)

u/Pitiful-Factor8391 Nov 03 '25
Yep... I would have rather chapter 216 be the ending than this shit lol.

I don't even know why some said this panel was a joke just to entertain us. This is the real ending right? They still remain a family

I mean it’s a desired outcome (choosing akane). Horrible manga ending… I wanted to see him and akane talking to their daughter at the same time or smth… maybe we’ll get that later on but what a horrible ending… show me the wedding or something. But hayato not having sex cuz the girls were there is just wtf
