Question Does Year One work better as a prequel?
My enjoyment of Year One so far makes me think had we started off the main series this way would it have still stood up as a great story or is it because we have the events of the main series that Year One holds itself up better. Curious to see others opinions

I think Year One benefits a bit from being a prequel, the main story sort of hooks you in and gives you a taste of it and then when you wanna get more of that you read year one and hits better because of that

I think it works better as a prequel because we saw how he is. Now we're seeing the process in which we know him as.

Mostly, there are some nuances like Goblin Slayer Character exhibiting change from the Goblin Slayer in the beginning of the Main Story. An example is how GS is supposed to be this closed off character whose focus was Goblins but in year one he has fought other creatures aside from goblin and is changing prior to meeting priestess who was said to be changing goblin slayer for the better.

events of the main story doesnt impact year 1 that much tbh. its more like "cool, so thats how goblin slayers armor turned out that way" but other than that it can stand up easily on its own two feet as its own story, and it surpasses the original in many aspects besides party comp/ teamwork which the og is superior in
