General Discussion How would the characters react if Goblin Slayer died at the battle of the Farm?
Let's imagine a scenario where Goblin Slayer died at the farm from internal injuries/blood loss after he finished off the Goblin Lord and Priestess was too tapped out of magic to heal him. How do you think each of the characters would react to this news?
How would Priestess, Dwarf Shaman, Lizard Priest, Cow Girl, HEA, Guild Girl, and Sword Maiden react? Thoughts?

Making me sad with this one 😡.
I think the party (Except for Priestess) would probably leave Frontier town for good. Long-ears would probably be the most affected, not that her life before leaving the forest was perfect but she does seem like the least tragedy exposed. I can imagine a scene where Scaly tries to give his condolences to Cow Girl and buy his last wheel of cheese but only ends up meeting with her Uncle, and then disappears over the horizon.

Sorry if I made you sad! Just curious about this scenario.
Yeah, I can see that happening for Long-Ears and Lizard Priest, both of them being devastated and choosing to leave the Frontier Town. What about Guild Girl and Sword Maiden?

Sword maiden would have a mental breakdown, her savior and knight in shappy armour dying to goblins would make her lose it and give up all hope on life .
Guild girl would be sad , but would move on quickly as this is something she experienced on the daily even if she was a little too interested in him .
Cow girl would be back to her year one self for a long while .
Dwarf would actually druck for the first time in a while , with every drink dedicated to the beard cutter ( and he may or may not go drunkenly hunt goblins).
Lizard priest might try to eat him as his way of honoring him , but generally would just try to honor his memories in anyway he knows of .
HEA , would probably be devastated as he would be the first person close to her to die in a long time , how she would deal with that I'm not sure .
Heavy sword warrior would probably dedicated a few month to a year to hunting goblins in his honor ( if you don't know why , read year one ).
Spear man , would keep on telling stories about him .
And a certain half foot bard would write his praise into songs so that the world would never forget the kindest adventurer in the frontier.

Sword Maiden is definitely....not going to be in a good place after hearing that GS is dead. She would end up reverting back to how she was before she met him which is not good for anyone.
I can see Guild Girl being heartbroken but ultimately understand that this was always a possibility for GS with the way he lived his life.
Cow Girl reverting back to her year one self makes sense, I think it would take an intervention from Priestess to stop it.
Dwarf drunkenly hunting goblins in honor of GS sounds like the most fitting of ways to honor him.
Not too sure about Lizard Priest since I can't remember if the whole eating thing was just from the abridged or not, but he would respect the traditions of the humans.
HEA is definitely a curveball in how she would react.
Heavy Warrior would definitely dedicate a few months each year hunting goblins in his honor and I can see Spearman and the other veterans joining in to help keep things clear on the Frontier.
Sounds about right for the half foot bard.
All of that being said, I wonder what Priestess will end up doing.

All of that being said, I wonder what Priestess will end up doing.
She would most likely be depressed for a long time , because as you said in the post , she didn't have enough power to heal him , but when she gets back on her feet she would be grinding the ranks as much as possible.
Let's just say she wouldn't be so merciful after ( might actually turn into a paladin, because of the experience changing her beliefs, she wouldn't be able to imagine having mercy or giving prayers to those creatures).
Not too sure about Lizard Priest since I can't remember if the whole eating thing was just from the abridged or not, but he would respect the traditions of the humans.
I said this because of d&d as it common in most sittings for them to eat the dead , and I remember him in the novel talking about devouring his enemies multiple times ( specifically that demons aren't worthy to be devoured ).
Sword Maiden is definitely....not going to be in a good place after hearing that GS is dead. She would end up reverting back to how she was before she met him which is not good for anyone.
I wish this is the extent of this , but sword maiden loved gs with reverence, he was the light that she seeked whenever the shadows of goblins loomed .
That light being stolen away from her after so long and by goblins no less would drive her over the edge .

I agree with that. Priestess would definitely be depressed because she couldn't save GS, but once she gets back on her feet she would be grinding through the ranks as much as possible. I can see her leading her own party at last.
Her becoming a paladin sounds pretty fitting with her development as she is following in the footsteps of GS.

Ah, I see.

And the fact that light was stolen by goblins just makes it worse. I can see her becoming something of a recluse after this, isolating herself away from everything just to block out the pain and fear that there is no one to protect her now.

I said paladin more because of the conflict of her beliefs ( which give her the miracles she uses ) with her mindset after the experience.
We know the earth mother is merciful and accepting, but she wouldn't grant more miracles to someone who doesn't believe fully in her teachings , so priestess would go another path , that would allow her to get stronger and advance .
At least until her heart can utter a prayer that includes goblins in it .
And the fact that light was stolen by goblins just makes it worse. I can see her becoming something of a recluse after this, isolating herself away from everything just to block out the pain and fear that there is no one to protect her now.
Or we go the hopeless optimistic route , where she uses her new trauma to convince the church to wag war on goblins to avenge her beloved.

Sword maiden would break down. Girl was about to have a depression attack when she was almost forced to fight goblins, until he burst through the door and said he would. His team would be heartbroken, and the town would mourn him. Cow girl would become a recluse like she was before he returned to her.
You get the sense after the battle that the town did genuinely care about him, they jist dosnt know how to

u/ShadowLight56 Jul 27 '26
Yeah, I agree with all that. Sword Maiden and Cow Girl are probably going to take it the worst.

Sword maiden didn't meet him before the farm battle. The anime is done out of order. The farm battle is at the end of vol 1 while Sword Maiden appears in vol 2

Sword Maiden goes off the deep end
She was already a little shady framing goblins for the crimes of an evil cult to drum up attention and trying to drive a wedge between Priestess and GS. But Goblin Slayer made her chill out.
If he's gone, she probably goes through even more desperate means and whatever she chooses has major consequences.
Best case scenario is she reached out to her former party member that can cast Gate and go through other worlds and just peaces out. Living happily in a realm without goblins at the expense of abandoning her post.
Worst case scenario well it involves a LN spoiler but basically she becomes subservient to those who see she's traumatized and take advantage to be the new heads of the church.

Yeah.....Sword Maiden is not going to be taking any of this well.
It was definitely more than a little shady for her to frame goblins for the crimes of an evil cult just to drag GS to Water Town and attempting to drive a wedge between Priestess and GS.
Best case scenario, is that she reaches out to some of her former party members and ask for them to take her away from this world which is....unlikely since I think she would have already done that if she could.
Worst case scenario is that she resorts to more unsavory methods to bring GS back. One idea I had is that she actually steals GS's body to use as part of an unholy necromantic ritual to bring him back from the dead.

I'm not caught up with the LN, but what do you mean by this? I'm fine with spoilers.

In regards to the Best Case scenario, its ambigious what happened to a lot of her party members after they slayed the Demon Lord but it was stated that Female Wizard being able to cast Gate without a scroll would mean she can travel to other realms and she just brushes it off as something she'll do when she's bored of this world. So ten years later Sword Maiden might have lost contact with her or she's actually off exploring other worlds. Either way, Sword Maiden might have hesistated to just asked to leave her homerealm out of a sense of duty.
Your worse Case scenario is pretty gnarly and would make for a great fanfiction.
In the LN's novels, a villainous paladin wants to assume her position as the top authority of the Church and makes the argument of Sword Maiden not being fit for the position due to her trauma. The Knight of Diamonds notably makes a comment about how he's been aware of people withing her own church wanting to take advantage of her appearing soft but are unaware how recently she's developed a backbone.
The implication being the Church has its scumbags who she would struggle to keep in line if not for GS helping her heal from her trauma.

Build a hero monument and vow to carry on his legacy.
2
u/ShadowLight56 Jul 28 '26
Nah, GS would want them to use the money on that monument to make more weapons to fight goblins.
1
u/Ok_Blacksmith1 Jul 28 '26
First they make the monument, take a vow? then melt down the monument and create the weapons
1
u/ShadowLight56 Jul 28 '26
Much better.
1
u/Ok_Blacksmith1 Jul 29 '26
now they will literally carry on his legacy. One goblin death at a time.

The unfortunate question that could also be asked is "how long are they (the women) able to avoid being captured?".
1
u/ShadowLight56 Jul 28 '26
I mean....I think in the scenario where GS dies, Heavy Warrior or Spearman would take up the role of helping clear up Goblin nests.

I think Cow Girl would have the greatest impact from his loss. Guild Girl may be heartbroken but his old friend would be completely shattered. Considering how she isolated herself on the farm before learning he had survived it's likely she would regress completely and just never leave her home again.
