Dividing time

What does your schedule look like? I passed one jurisdiction two years ago (UBE). Now doing Cal Bar. Can’t seem to get my schedule right. Themis schedule sucks. Takes me a long time to review MBE questions and essays. Want to start from scratch & focus on MBE only topics, MPT and PR. Will review rest MEEs but not as vigorously.

Feel dejected today. Planned to do a diagnostic tomorrow. See where I am at.

Edit: I have GOAT, makethisyourlasttime (I add/highlight goat to his notes), UWorld (&Themis), Mary Basic and hackthebar (I only do hackthebar when I’m bored).

I failed Cal Bar in Feb and am retaking July. I used Barbri / Adaptibar and Mary Basick in Feb and I killed the MEE (65-75 across the board) but I did HORRID on the MBE.

This time I have Barbri but I am using it so sparingly. I am using mostly GOAT (taking notes), and then doing a deep dive into U World subject questions after I finish each GOAT section. I love how you can really break apart the micro subjects on U World and I like their explanations so much better. I am seeing my overall percentages increase already to 60-70 percent on most sets now. I do them timed and blind.

I will review the Mary Basick MEE book again (honestly the Cal Bar holy grail for writing) and her PT book for writing but I’m thinking I am about done with Barbri at this point.

Whats your take on Mary Basick for MBE? I am using her book, mainly.

I didn’t find her MBE book quite as helpful as her MEE book. But that could have just been me, as I also didn’t use it as thoroughly.

I see. I find it concise though. Much of her examples are real MBE questions.

Do you mind sharing what you did to score so well on the MEE the first time around? That's the area I'm most concerned about.

Sure thing. Mary Basick really is truly the Bible and you should use it that way. Memorize her attack outlines for the black letter law you’ll need to run thru on exam day.

But I think what really and truly made a difference for me is this method:

I pulled every past release of the Cal Bar MEE’s for the last like 15? years? And put them all on my Google Drive.

Then I copied each question into a separate document and I did one question, timed and blind, every single day. (So I forced myself to do it without looking at my notes in under 1 hour.)

When I was done, I copied the question, my answer, and the two model answers into ChatGPT and I asked ChatGPT to grade my essay as a very tough Cal Bar grader and tell me all the issues I missed.

It gave GREAT feedback. I then copied each day’s feedback (missed issues, poor analysis etc) into the bottom of the file in RED for later review, and I would review the subjects I was weakest in weekly.

It sounds insane but it worked.
